AFAD’s On-the-Spot Poetry Writing and Reading Contests are open to young poets who love to arrange words in any poetic style. An entry must be a short poem [under 32 lines] and must be written onthe-spot. To make sure that each poem is written on-the-spot, entrants must respond to a theme and prompt word that will be given on the date of the actual writing contest. All works must be written eligibly in English or Filipino. All entries should be original and not a translation from another entry. An entrant whose poem is shortlisted, may read his/her own work or can choose someone to present it in a public reading. Criteria for Poetry Writing include: Originality -35% Style - 25% Relevance to the topic - 40% Criteria for Poetry Reading include: Delivery– 50% Audience Impact – 50%

Who can join? * Youth/Students or family members of the disappeared with ages

ranging 16-25 years.

1. Interested individuals must fill up a registration form available at the

AFAD office and submit it on or before December 4, 2009. Entrants should also submit the following documents: photocopy of two valid IDs, birth certificate and return postal address. 2. The actual poetry writing contest will be held on December 4, 2009. This is a whole day activity which is divided into two parts: morning (10:00 am –12:00nn) documentary film showing for inputs and afternoon (1:005:00pm) poetry writing. Entries will be shortlisted for poetry reading. The venue will be announced soon. 3. The poetry reading and awarding ceremony will be held on December 7, 2009. It will coincide with the International Human Rights Week. A panel of judges will be selected from local human rights advocates. The venue will be announced soon.
