Overview of the situation of the IDPs
This is greatest humanitarian crisis faced by Pakistan Sources tell that there are more than 3.5 million (35 lac) people who have been made homeless because of the current operation in Swat About 20 camps have been made in different area of Punjab and NWFP for the IDPs Only 2 lac IDPs are registered in these camps Vast majority of the IDPs, are living outside of camps with host families, rented accommodation, schools and hujraas in the villages Hundreds of spontaneous settlements have sprung up in sites such as schools, colleges, stadiums and parks etc Most of the IDPs have arrived the camps and villages after facing a lot of. They are in urgent need of food, medical care and hygiene kits Majority of the funds are concentrated towards the camps, still the camps lack many basic facilities Main concern of the IDPs is the diseases, the growing heat and the basic needs like food, mattress etc IDPs are also worried about their possessions in the affected areas There is no real time frame as to when this crisis will end, till then, the IDPs look forward to our support Phase 1 –Mardan

Shop keepers are very helpful when you buy the things in bulk and tell them that you want them for the IDPs The credit goes to the untiring efforts of Fadil Aleem and his team The areas they covered were the Villages in the Mardan distt In Mardan there are about 10 lac people outside the camps Most of the people were living in schools and with hosts The host families were poor villagers who can hardly support their own families Most of the places they visited, they were the first one to come with some aid This is a pictorial view of their visit
Fadil Aleem and his team made a detailed report of their trip : The Plight of the IDPs They have expressed their special thanks to Al-Khidmat foundation who helped them in reaching the real IDPs Fadil Aleem and his team are on their phase II now, and are planning to reach out more areas this time Anyone willing to help can contact Fadil Aleem at 092-345-4022058 Phase II – Sawabi
In this phase we did the fund raising and delivery ourselves Our team was : Muhammad Awais Tahir, Waqar Akbar Cheema, Usman Ajmal, Osama Kareem (our translator) and Behzad. We all are students of Military College of Signals (NUST). In Sawabi there were 4 IDP camps but the majority of the IDPs were outside the camps The works of most organizations were restricted to the camps only In camps there was free medical facility The main problem in one of the camp of Shah Mansur (Distt. Sawabi) was the lack of electricity Average size of families was 7-8 , living in one tent, but all the tents had two mattresses only The food supply was well managed Many basic facilities were still missing in the camps. Many people were demanding a mosque where they could bow down before their Lord in congregation Building a temporary mosque costs around 45,000/- Rs (we are collecting money for that, anyone willing to help, see the contact details at the end) Al - Khidmat foundation and Ummah foundation were doing a good job in the Shah Mansur Camps Every one in those areas is very hospitable. Even the IDPs offered us a glass of water where we went. Al - Khidmat foundation had told us the list of medicines that were required Peoples in camps and outside camps are suffering from skin diseases and allergies and diarrhea etc.
