SUMMER TRAINING REPORT

APPLICATIONS OF PLC IN FACTORY AUTOMATION (FA) & COMPUTER INTEGRATED MANUFACTURING (cIM) UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF Mr. J S DHAKA Sr. Manager (operations) & H.O.D (JEWEL BOX Section) MOSER BAER INDIA LIMITED GREATER NOIDA , INDIA

SUBMITTED BY RAJAT GUPTA FINAL B.TECH (ELECTRONICS) ROLL NO 0404530031 Sr No 195/04 HBTI KANPUR

ABOUT MOSER BAER

About Moser baer

•founded in New Delhi in 1983 as a Time Recorder unit in collaboration with Maruzen Corp (Japan) and Moser Baer (Switzerland)

•In 1988 got into the data storage industry thru5 .25-inch Floppy Disk business . •In 1999 set up a capacity plant to manufacture Recordable Compact Disks (CD-Rs) and Recordable Digital Versatile Disks (DVD-Rs). •Today world’s 2nd largest OEM manufacturer. Every 4th CD is from Moser Baer

About Moser baer

•first to manufacture and market the Blu-ray Discs and HD DVD formats. •presence in over 82 countries . •preferred supplier to all top global OEM brands. Near Zero Revocation Rate. •Signed The Largest Outsourcing Deal in Indian Manufacturing in 2003 of that time. •Now in Home Entertainment, Photovoltaic, IT peripherals and consumer electronics

About Moser baer

ABOUT PLC

what is PLC

•Used in manufacturing processes like machining, packaging, material handling, automated assembly or countless other facilities

•Almost any application that needs some type of electrical control has a need for a plc.

PLC BLOCK DIAGRAM

INPUT RELAYS(contacts) : • connected to the outside world. •They physically exist and receive signals from switches, sensors, etc.

•They are not relay literally, they are transistors

PLC BLOCK DIAGRAM

INTERNAL UTILITY RELAYS-(contacts) •They are simulated relays which eliminate external relays.

COUNTERS •Do not physically exist. •They are simulated counters and they can be programmed to count pulses.

PLC BLOCK DIAGRAM

OUTPUT RELAYS(coils) •connected to the outside world.

•exist physically •send on/off signals to solenoids, lights, etc. •can be transistors, relays, or triacs

PLC BLOCK DIAGRAM

DATA STORAGE •these are registers to store data.

•used as temporary storage for math or data manipulation. •used to store data when power is removed from the PLC.

PLC OPERATION

PLC operation

•works by continually scanning a program. •scan cycle is consisting of 3 important steps. •Other steps are for checking the system and updating the current internal counter and timer values.

PLC PROGRAMMING

Ladder diagrams

•Initial Technique for PLC programming

•2 parallel lines represent input. Circles represent output.

mnemonic programming

•Read one line at a time from top to bottom

•Basically a programming description of a ladder diagram

Sequential Flow CHARTS

•similar to flowcharts, but much more Powerful •It’s like a multipath ladder

STRUCTURED TEXT PROGRAMS

•Used in advanced systems

•Very much in like a programming language

DRAG & DROP PROGRAMMING

W, X,Y,Z are ladder diagrams , which can be created and saved in memory

DRAG & DROP PROGRAMMING

•State of art programming •This ladder diagram can be saved to use in another ladder diagram.

POSITIONING SYSTEM

AD-75 block diagram

•accuracy is a very important feature •High precision position control is required for applications which are miniature, having nuances and fineness •High precision speed control is essential for mass production •There can be a tradeoff

SPEED and postion CONTROL

•Speed is controlled by pulse train frequency •Position is controlled by total number of pulses in a pulse train

•total no of pulses = (pulses reqd to rotate once) *(Designated distance/movement of load motor on single rotation)

AD-75 FUNCTIONAL diagram

POSITIONING APPS

Punch press

"Positioning" refers to moving a moving body, such as a workpiece or tool at a designated speed, and accurately stopping it at the target position

•PUNCH PRESS •It is 2 dimensional positioning

Palletizer

•Using the servo for one axis, the palletizer is positioned at a high accuracy.

• The amount to lower the palletizer according to the material thickness is saved.
