THE C HEM IC ALS USED BY LAN XESS Acr yl on itr il e (A N) : A colorless liquid with a sharp onion or garlic odor. Caused cancer in lab animals exposed to extremely high levels. Most exposure is from inhalation, although people working with the chemical risk exposure through skin absorption. Direct exposure results in eye irritation, headache, sneezing, nausea, weakness, light-headedness and vomiting. Prolonged skin contact may result in blistering and other effects that resemble a third-degree burn. Bu ta di en e (BD) : Colorless gas with a mild gasoline-like odor. Made from processing petroleum. Exposure to extremely high levels can result in eye and upper respiratory tract irritation, and can damage the heart, lungs, nervous and gastrointestinal systems. St yre ne mon om er (SM) : Colorless liquid that has a sweet smell, unless it contains other chemicals that give it a sharp, unpleasant odor. Exposure to high levels can cause nervous system effects such as depression, concentration problems, muscle weakness, tiredness, nausea, and eye, nose and throat irritation.

Gu id e t o Po lym er Ab bre vi at io ns Last-modified: March 3rd, 1998 Since polymer molecules tend to have long names befitting their size, most polymers are referred to in coversation and in print by their abbreviations, whenever possible. It is much easier to refer to 'ABS' than to 'acrylonitrile-butadiene styrene. or to 'PCTFE' instead of 'polymonochlorotrifluoroethylene'. Abbr ev ia ti o Po ly mer Na me n ABA
