Holy Communion is celebrated every Wednesday, with prayer for the sick, at 10.30 am in St Matthew’s followed by a cup of tea and a chat in the McLean Room. Newcastle and Newtownmountkennedy Select Vestry meeting on Wednesday 30th September at 8pm in the McLean Room. Last call for trip to Prague! Parish Hall/Centre A date has been fixed for the promised parish meeting, to which everyone is invited, to view the proposed plans for the new Parish Centre and Rectory.
We hope that enlarged plans will be on display and the architect will be with us to explain his work to date on this project. It is hoped that plans will soon be submitted for planning permission. th The date is Wednesday 7 October in St. Francis’ School at 8.00pm. Please do take note of this date and if possible plan to attend. Harvest Festival Harvest Thanksgiving Services will take place on Friday 2nd October at 7.30pm and Sunday 4th October at 11.00am in Newcastle. We look forward to welcoming Richard Henderson, Bishop of Tuam as preacher on both occasions. There will be a special collection at both of these services which will be divided between Crosslinks and St. Catherine’s Association. Weekly Envelope Subscribers should note that there is an extra blue envelope for Harvest which can be used to contribute to the special collection. The evening service on Friday will be followed by supper over in St. Francis’ School to which all are invited. Contributions of sandwiches, buns, etc. would be appreciated and can be left over in the school before the service begins. Calary will give thanks for their Harvest on Sunday 11th October at 3.30pm as part of the celebrations for the 175th Anniversary of Calary Church. The preacher on that occasion will be the Rev. Baden Stanley from Bray. Decoration of Churches for Harvest Calary Church will be decorated on Thursday 8th from 10.30am. As usual help and/or contributions towards decoration would be appreciated. Also donations of food towards the harvest tea on Sunday 11th would be very welcome. Newcastle Church will be decorated on Friday 2nd from 10am, although some people will be doing their bit on Thursday evening if it suits you better to join them. Offers of help with decoration and contributions of flowers, produce etc. will be much appreciated. Weddings In Newcastle Parish Church on 17th July; Humphrey Martin Canty, Curragh, Lissanda, Cork, Co. Cork and Shireen Audrey Rountree, Threarah, Newcastle, Co Wicklow. Congratulations to Humphrey and Shireen. May you enjoy a long and happy journey together and may you know God’s blessing and peace as you make life together in Co. Cork. Congratulations also to Andrew Stringer and Kate Curtin who were married on August 29th. May you also know God’s blessing and have a long and happy life together. Holy Baptism On 19th September in Newcastle Parish Church; May Belle and Indigo, children of Mark Reynolds and Arabella Annesley, Killoughter, Ashford. The service was conducted by Canon John Clarke and the Rector. We pray that May Belle and Indigo will bring much joy and happiness to those around them and grow up to honour the promises made for them at baptism. [email protected]. Monday Timeout This group will continue to meet on Monday evenings from 8.00 to 9.15 pm in the McLean Room. This is open to everybody and is a chance to ask questions, chat, study……! All welcome. Tuesday Club Meet on Tuesday 13th in the McLean Room at 2.30pm. Surprise speaker! Parent and Toddler Group Meet every Monday except Bank Holiday Monday 26th in the Cottage for tea, chat and play. Contact Wendy 086 8478415. Coffee in the Cottage Coffee will continue in the cottage every Tuesday from 10.30am. If you have a few minutes to spare you are welcome to join us. Leisurely Lunches Lunch in the cottage in October will be on Thursday 15th. As usual everyone welcome for €5 a head. If you can let Karen or Clodagh know in advance so much the better. St. Francis’ N. S. Parents Association Please give your recipes for the cookbook to Mary O’Neill or any member of the P.A. as soon as possible! 175TH ANNIVERSARY OF CALARY CHURCH Monday 28th September; there will be a very interesting evening in Calary Church when the Roundwood Historical and Folklore Society will be having an evening on the history and folklore of Calary at 8.00pm. There will be a number of well-known speakers and refreshments will be available. All are welcome and a revised version of Canon Jennings’ History of Calary Parish will be on sale. A special celebration of the 175th anniversary of Calary Church will take place on the weekend of October 9th - 11th. Friday 9th October; Special 175th Anniversary Art Exhibition will be opened at 7.30p.m and this will be followed by a short concert by members of Roundwood and Bray Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Youth. Saturday 10th October; the Art Exhibition and the Plant Sale and Country Produce Stall will be open from 11.30am until 6.00pm. At 8.00pm there will be a concert by Eamon Sweeney (baroque guitar) and Roisin O'Grady (soprano). Sunday 11th October; Art Exhibition from 12 noon. Harvest Thanksgiving service at 3.30p.m. Entry forms for the Art Exhibition with all details are now available from Gay Nuttall 2818112.
June Roe would appreciate donations of plants and produce for the Stall on Saturday 10th. This year the proceeds from this will be split between the Church Hall and the Fields of Life Sponsorship Scheme.
