INSTRUMENTS FOR MEASURING GAS PRESSURE AND ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE MANOMETER
MANOMETER ~ A device that employed to measure pressure. ~ Measure pressure in general. ~ Simplest measuring instrument used for gauge pressure(low range pressure) mesurements, pressure against the weight of a column of liquid. ~ Consists of a U-Tube containing liquid such as oil, water, mercury and others. ~ Formula: Pressure of gas supply = Atmospheric pressure + Pressure due to the column of mercury.

• So, the gas pressure = atmospheric pressure + pressure exerted by liquid AC = atmospheric pressure + hpg
Application of Manometer • Sphygmomanometer Measuring blood pressure
How does it works? • One of the column of the tube is connected to a gas source – gas hose • The gas pressure will act on the surface of liquid in column connected with gas • If the gas pressure are more than the atmospheric pressure, liquid in this column will be pushed downwards
