His Excellency Mr. Ban Ki Moon United Nations Secretary General Dear Sir, Since the beginning of your term at office, you have been demonstrating your concern for the independence and sovereignty of Lebanon through your continual work to implement all the UN Security Council resolutions concerning Lebanon. As we all know, Lebanon has been subjected to three decades of Syrian occupation and one of its ugliest outcomes is the kidnapping of hundreds of Lebanese and foreign men and women, who were illegally taken to Syrian prisons. You might wonder that a few of our Lebanese politicians, whether in government or opposition, had the courage to raise this issue in public from a humanitarian perspective and far from any political exploitation; the reason is that most of them are accomplices either: directly through transferring some of the detainees to Syria or indirectly through shrouding the truth and the cover up for their Syrian ally! Our letter is not meant to search into the unknown for our detained brothers and sisters for we are certain they are present in Syrian jails, and the proofs that we have outweigh the denial of both the Lebanese and Syrian governments, but rather to ask your Excellency, as a representative of the world community, about your stand towards this crime against humanity that befell Lebanon, the whole of Lebanon? Our main demand today is a little gesture on your behalf and that is the establishment of an international commission of investigation to disclose the fate of our brothers and sisters. A commission that would return the living to their homes and families and repatriate the bodies of those who died to be honored, for they have fallen so we can be alive today!
