PERSUASIVE ESSAY The word “essay” comes from a French word “essai”, which means “to try”. So, typically, in an persuasive essay, your job is to try to convince someone that your idea, or argument, is the best idea.
However, Master Yoda said, “Do or do not, there is no try.” What this means is that YOU WILL do more than try to convince the person who will read your essay – your audience – YOU WILL CONVINCE THEM. How? You will do it by using strong reasoning and detail to support your belief.
