_____/_____25 points. OBJECTIVES: solving the problem   

I have created a tempera painting that uses a complimentary and analogous color scheme to unify and highlight important elements of a personal journey I have experienced. I have traced, simplified, and transferred my collage design onto my painting paper so that my journey is clearly illustrated using interesting, descriptive shapes. I have painted every section of my painting (no white paper is showing!)

I have planned a color scheme that uses analogous (similar) and complimentary (opposite) colors and used it in my painting. I avoided using raw colors, (straight blue, red, yellow, etc. from the tempera containers). I used a palette for mixing all my colors, and did not mix my colors on the painting itself. I have carefully used a paintbrush to neatly paint all areas of my painting. I painted all the largest shapes in my painting first in order to see my composition develop more clearly. I have kept the edges of my shapes sharp and clean by carefully using my paintbrush. I have used larger brushes in larger areas, and smaller brushes for more detailed areas.

_____/_____25 points. DESIGN: how you solved the problem as an artist     

I planned a color scheme before I began my painting. My color scheme uses analogous (similar) colors to help unify my composition. I have used at least one complementary color to effectively emphasize the important events in my personal journey. My final painting uses a variety (of sizes and kinds) of shapes in its final composition. I picked colors to use in my color scheme for a reason. The colors help to express the mood, emotion, or environment I experienced or saw while on my personal journey. (NO RAINBOW PAINTINGS!) My final design used in my painting shows a visual pathway with overlapping shapes. I can “read” the painting to identify the story or events in my journey

_____/_____25 points. PRESENTATION: craftsmanship of the final product     

All areas of my painting have been handled with care, there are no rushed or unconsidered areas. I have carefully stored my painting on the drying rack to protect its overall appearance. I have used all painting materials/techniques carefully to avoid unwanted spills, color alterations, or other distracting elements. My final painting is free of any unwanted dirt or paint marks, and has not been torn, bent, or mangled. I have signed and dated my completed painting on the back of the paper.

Self-Reflection Questions (25 points)

Directions: Please respond to the following questions using complete sentences. You must answer each question thoroughly in order for me to understand how successful your painting is! These questions are worth 15 points! 1. Briefly explain the personal journey you are illustrating in your painting, and identify several highlights from this experience:

2. Describe the color scheme you used for your painting. Why did you use this color scheme for illustrating your personal journey?

3. What parts of your painting are emphasized or stand out to you? How did you use color and/or composition to make these sections stand out?

4. Do you feel your painting effectively illustrates the personal journey you experienced? Why or why not? (If not, what could you change in your painting to make it more successful?)

5. Did you enjoy making this work of art? Why or why not? In your own words, what makes for a successful painting?
