MEMORANDUM TO: Mr. Chertudi FROM: Troy Dennis SUBJECT: Personal Brand Narrative DATE: 3/13/19 In order to complete my personal brand narrative, this memo has been prepared. This document will help summarize how both my peers and myself see my PeopleStyles and Culture Map, in order to get a better understanding of how I “come off” to the people I work with. Contained within includes an overview of my PeopleStyles and Culture Map scores, common themes in the responses, and how I can use this assignment going forward. Scores Overall, both my peers and I rated myself as pretty analytical. I’m not an overly assertive person and am more oriented towards facts and logic. I’m also pretty quiet and like to get things done with minimal distractions. Two things that surprised me in my PeopleStyles is that my teammates rated me as both “less tentative when expressing opinions” and “quicker to resolve problem situations.” This is contradictory to what I previously thought of myself being like in group dynamics, where I just go with the flow. Both my personal and peer culture map scores are relatively similar. I’m rated in the middle of Communicating, Evaluating, and Disagreeing and am rated low in Scheduling and Deciding by both myself and my peers. I tend to take other people into account when I am talking and working with them, and need structure in my life so none of this is overly surprising to me. What is a bit surprising is how my peers rated me high in the Trusting category. I feel that I learn to trust people I work with more through actually working with them and seeing how credible they are over spending time with them outside of work. Another thing that surprised me is that the respondents felt I preferred flat leadership structures over hierarchical structures. I tend to think of myself as a “do as I’m told” guy and that generalization makes me feel like I would belong in a hierarchy, but it seems like I’m ok with any leadership as long as there is some sort of structure. Open Responses Overall, I felt like the values and responses I got from my peers matched up with who I am and what I am trying to accomplish. One thing that stood out to me is that they value my work ethic and dedication towards whatever project I am working on, and I really appreciate that. I found it interesting that I have “a different personality” depending on the person. One respondent thinks I am a calming presence while another thinks I am more outgoing and laid back, which surprised

me. More common responses include a serious nature, and a determination to do anything which are things I strive to be. Key Takeaways While there are a couple of surprises, in general, I have a decent idea of who I am and what I come off as to people; I am a serious, determined hard worker who might be a little bit quiet at times, but I will get the job done in a timely fashion. I do appear to come off a lot more sociable than I anticipated, as it takes me a while to open up to people. Knowing that I come off as sociable is a huge confidence booster to me as I come from a relatively small school that never really prepared me to work in teams, along with the fact that I am a little on the quieter side. Conclusion Overall, doing this assignment has reinforced how I see myself and what I think I’m good at. While there are a few surprises such as not being tentative to express opinions and a high trust category rating, I am still the serious, determined, hard-worker I think I am. This assignment has boosted my confidence which will help me in any future team I work with whether it be in school or in the workforce.
