A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON THE EFFECTIVENESS OF INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT AND TEAM PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (PMS) Performance Management System (PMS) is a system where the manager and team members get an opportunity to share feedback with each other. It gives an organization data on how the employees have been performing and an opportunity to map the same against the business performance as a whole or partially as different functions/business divisions etc.

DEFINITION Performance management is a process for establishing shared understanding about what is to be achieved and an approach to managing and developing people in a way which increases the probability that it will be achieved in the short- and long-term”. - Armstrong (1994)

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT Individual Performance Management focuses on getting the right people in the right positions and helping them learn, grow and realise their potential. It is aimed at getting their efforts directed into achieving objectives which are aligned with those of the organisation, whilst exemplifying the organisation’s values in their behaviour. It also addresses issues arising when people leave.

TEAM PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT Team performance measures describes the team outputs, team processes, customer relations, quality standards, speed of response or delivery time, project management, financial results and cost control of a team in an organization.

Relationship Management – Working effectively with differences Corporate Skills ( The outer personality) Presentation Skills Individual Action Plan / Areas for Improvement Create a plan for 3 areas to work on based on the inputs of the 2 day workshop

Methodology:

• Highly - interactive with role – plays, case studies, group discussions, games and films.

EFFECTIVENESS OF TEAM PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT Help participants see the benefits of working together towards a shared common goal. Emphasize the importance of openness and trust for effective teamwork. Define and clarify parameters of effective communication.

Offer experiences that foster good interpersonal relationship that could be carried back to the work place. Help participants gain self esteem and confidence through successes over challenges that come their way in the program. Experiential Learning That people learn best when personally involved in the learning experience. That knowledge to be truly meaningful has to be discovered by the individual. That people are more committed to learning when they are free to identify and pursue their own goals.
