Ms. Wagoner’s Weekly Newsletter April 27 – May 1, 2009 What have we been up to? This week in math, began a new unit called Patterns of Change. This unit on algebra will focus on finding patterns, making graphs, and completing tables. This week students constructed several patterns and were able to make predictions using their graphs and tables. We continued working in our four different reading groups. Students are really close to finishing their books and are making predictions about what will happen at the end of their stories. Next week, groups will complete a book report (which does not count as the one they need to complete with their Reading Log). We had our last DARE lesson with Officer Just. Students will be writing an essay (during class time) that demonstrates what they have learned. Some students may read their essay at our graduation ceremony in June. We also did a Great Body Shop lesson on emotions and feelings. We had some excellent discussions about how to handle certain feelings and situations as we’re growing up. Students also continued MCA testing this week and completed the reading portion. They worked hard during the test and got to spend a little extra time outside enjoying the nice weather. Next week, we wrap up MCA testing by taking the Science portion. Please see the schedule for the dates and times. It is very important that your child is in school those days and eats a good breakfast.
