(1929-1968) black American clergyman and civil rights leader, leader winner of the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize, outspoken

Mandela , Nelson (Rolihlahla) (b.1918), South African statesman, -President since 1994. -He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1964 as an activist for the African National Congress (ANC). -Released in 1990, as leader of the ANC he engaged in talks on the introduction of majority rule with President F. W. de Klerk, with whom he shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. He became the country's first democratically elected President in 1994.

Gandhi, Mohandas Karamchand.

-Known as “Mahatma.” Mahatma 18691948. -Indian nationalist and spiritual leader who developed the practice of non-violent disobedience that forced Great Britain to grant independence to India (1947).
