Wisdom’s Children — Poem Response #1 2009-11-11 2009-11-12 Kevin A. Sensenig One Take On “Yet Wisdom Is Vindicated By All Her Children” (Luke 7:30-50) In the parable Jesus told in the Gospel of Luke The one with the greater debt, having been forgiven, Loved more; Yet he had to go into debt much to be forgiven much — The failed aspects of the journey are part of the redemption — It is not there that the final Hell lies; In fact the entire journey is crucial to the holy aspect. Likewise the woman who was a sinner Found forgiveness through her love, (Of Jesus? Anticipating forgiveness? As part of her sin? In spite of her sin? Did her love permeate her sin? Her whole life? A little of each of these? All of each?) For she loved much, And also through her recognition of Who or What Jesus was And her expression therein — poetic, demonstrative, maybe silent. Prior to this Jesus had given the Pharisees a hard time, His words tinged with exasperation: John was an ascetic and Jesus hung out with the wrong crowd And the pharisees, He had told them, found fault with both. Give me a break, Jesus said, and then: “Yet wisdom is vindicated by all her children.” This is the pivot point between His reproach of the Pharisees And His encounter with the woman who washed His feet with her tears. It is also the glue, the principle, that both before and after demonstrate. By being a sinner, through the sinner’s journey (with eyes open), The woman who washed Jesus’ feet with her tears recognized A turning word, event, or gesture in the One Who could say, and did say, that she was forgiven. In this Jesus in His turn validated everything. Perhaps Simon the Pharisee accepted his place As one of wisdom’s children, too. Title Page 1
