Plastic Surgery Instructions BEFORE SURGERY: * You are welcome to have detailed discussion of the procedure, alternatives unforeseen complications, recovery time and finances. * Lab studies and Pre Anesthesia check-up (PAC) are required prior to surgery .The lab work will include blood tests, urinalysis and possibly an ECG or chest x-ray depending on the procedure ,your age and health status. You can discuss the anesthesia related questions with the anesthetist at the time of your PAC. You might require physician /other specialists review if considered necessary. * Do not take aspirin/ any medications containing aspirin/ Ibuprofen for 10 days prior to surgery and Vitamin E for 3 weeks prior to surgery. These medications interfere with blood clotting. * If you take medications for other health problems, please let us know. We will guide you for the same. * Consent of the parents/guardians is mandatory in case of the minors. * Make arrangements for assisted transportation to the hospital on the day of surgery. You may also come for admission a night prior if surgery is scheduled for the morning. You will also need someone to stay with you following surgery. * In case of any financial requirements for elective surgery please let us know. We will assist you with our partner financing company (Hayati Financing).Our social worker will also be more than happy to help you. * WOMEN ONLY - If you are taking birth control pills and are also taking an antibiotic, you should use an alternative method of birth control until your next cycle. Oral antibiotics have been shown to interfere with birth control pills.

* WOMEN ONLY It will be preferable to schedule the surgery after the periods. * WOMEN ONLY Elective aesthetic surgeries are not advisable during the pregnancy. *Do not eat or drink anything after 12 midnight for morning surgery or 6 hours before afternoon surgery. Please follow the Anesthetist instructions. *Do Not Smoke For Two Weeks Prior To Surgery. * Please bring an attendant with you on the day of surgery. *Purchase a bar of antibacterial soap like dettol and wash the operative area beginning 3 days prior to surgery. * You will need to pay the advance for surgery in cases not covered by the insurance. DAY OF SURGERY: *Do not take any sedatives the morning of surgery unless specifically ordered by the doctor. You will be advised when to take routine medications. *Wear comfortable clothing including a front button shirt and comfortable flat shoes. No jewelry, nail polish, make-up, powder, deodorant, dentures, contact lens, perfume/cologne. * You will need to sign the consent form and photography form before the surgery. If you have any queries don’t hesitate to ask us. * You can put all valuables in the locker. (Please contact the ward sister for the same). * Please take shower on the day of surgery with antibacterial soap like Dettol.

* Wash the operative area nicely with antibacterial soap. * We will mark the site of surgery and will give you medications prior to shifting to the OR. AFTER SURGERY: * It is anticipated that you will be drowsy the remainder of the day. Limit all activities and take rest. * We will ambulate you and might start some exercises in the evening of surgery. * We will start orally at an appropriate timing. The food will be provided from the hospital kitchen during your stay in the hospital *You can expect bruising and swelling of the surgical areas. * We will give you antibiotics, painkillers and supportive as required. * You may have a drain in place and will be instructed as to the management of this. * Do not drive a car or operate hazardous machinery for 4-5 days and as long as pain limits movement or pain medication is required. * Do not take aspirin/ Ibuprofen containing medications for 10 days after surgery and Vitamin E for 3 weeks after surgery. * Do not drink alcoholic beverages when taking pain medication and for 24 hours after surgery. * Do not smoke for two weeks after surgery. * Do not make important personal or business decisions for 24 hours. * Keep all dressings clean, dry and in place.

* Exercise should be discontinued for 2 weeks following surgery. We will explain you when to restart the exercises. ** Please don’t forget to take discharge card, discharge summary and sick leave certificate at the time of the discharge. * In cases of hand surgery hand elevation is absolutely necessary. * In cases of Hand Surgery watch for finger circulation and report immediately in case of color change. * Please don’t forget to take discharge card, discharge summary and sick leave certificate at the time of the discharge. * Please ensure that the hospital bill is fully settled before leaving the hospital. * Please follow the post-op instructions and medications advised. * Absolute compliance with the follow-up schedule is must. *If there is any unusual pain, discomfort, swelling, redness, bleeding or a temperature greater than 38 °C after the discharge, please contact us immediately or come to the Emergency dept. immediately.
