Passive Sentences Passive Sentences are used when the receiver of the action is more important than the doer. In an active sentence:

The subject of the sentence is the doer of the action. While for the Passive Sentence,
The ball was kicked by the boy.

The receiver of the action is also the subject of the action. Structures
Simple Present S + am/ is/ are + PP (by…) Active:
They speak English in America.
Passive:
English is spoken in America.
Simple Past S + was/ were + PP (by…) Active:
Father bought a new TV for the family.
Passive:
A new TV was bought for the family by father
Present Continuous S + am/ is/ are being + PP (by…) Active:
They are reporting the earthquake on the news.
Passive:
The earthquake is being reported on the news.
Past Continuous S + was/ were being + PP (by…) Active:
They were serving dinner when I arrived.
Passive:
Dinner was being served when I arrived.
Present Perfect S + has/ have been + PP (by…) Active:
They have read the book already.
Passive:
The book has been read already.
