Diego Yair Rodriguez professor: Mrs. Kopatich Subject: EWRC 15 November 2018 Personal statement Life can sometimes be ironic and could cross you in between your and the passion of yours when you probably thought that was your passion. Life is only experienced once, and lived once therefore, I have discovered my passion thanks to life's experience. I never thought I would love playing an instrument that I hated. It was all due to that class that I had to try pass. When I was 10 years old I thought my passion was drawing. I thought it was drawing because I was able to draw a lot of cartoon characters. I was able to draw many characters from cartoons like goku, Pokémon’s “Pikachu”, etc. I, of course, needed more practice on my drawing skills. But even though i was a 10 year old i was really good because i remember people still drawing stick figure instead of drawing good. After all, I ended up staying with drawing for Two years because everything changed when I entered 6th grade where I was more focused on school and focused on my grades. I was put in a class where I knew I would struggle the most: guitar class. Life can sometimes be weird when it gives you a passion you least expected to end up loving. Guitar was an instrument that I thought was difficult to play because your fingers would end up with guitar string marks. I was bumped with a guitar and I had to learn because I was going to fail if not. I had to practice this guitar in order to achieve an academic goal in middle school, which was to have all A’s in my report card. My drawing practices were over because I had to focus more on practicing the guitar for days to have an A on the class. I do not know how but I easily learned every single thing I was taught in a
week. I realized that I was able to learn to play the guitar quickly because my father, grandfather, and uncle loved to play the guitar and piano, which means that music was part of my blood and probably came from generations ago. I also amazingly had a 100% in the guitar class, something I thought was going to be difficult to get in a guitar class. In addition, I learned a lot of chords in guitar class.I also had stayed with the guitar after middle school. I had a stronger passion for guitar than my father3 because I would play the guitar every single day. I realized in high school that people who practiced the guitar more would do even better than the natural skilled guitar players. I realized later on that in order to be better, I had to practice more since I am a natural skilled. Taking advantage of being natural skilled made me get better on my passion. I ended up doing great as soon as I started practicing due to this; I realized I was ahead of everyone from my family. In conclusion, I overachieved my goal of passing my guitar class. I was able to find my passion and developed many different skills. I never expected it, but life is so awesome because you first think that you passion is something but ends up being another. For me it was very ironic because I ended up with a passion that I hated when I was very small. I was persevering when I couldn’t play a song that was difficult and just by practicing every day I over achieved the goal I set. My passion for guitar is something that I thought would never be my passion.
