The History of Solar Eclipse The Solar Eclipse has been the center of attention in history and is linked to many myths and tradition. According to the occurrence or Solar Eclipse, ancient Chinese believes there was a dragon eating the sun. Furthermore, the ancient Greek believed that an Eclipse is a sign of angry gods, therefore it is thought as a bad omen. The Greek historian, Herodotus recorded that at the height of a particularly fierce battle between Lydians and Medes, darkness fell upon the land and at the moment the two armies stop fighting and make peace with each other. Besides that, Stonehenge in Salisbury Plain in England is believed to have been used to measure the motion of the sun and the moon. The ancient Greek astronomer, Hipparchus determined that the moon is about 429 000 km away by the observation from of Solar Eclipse from Hellespont and Alexandria. In addition, Sir Joseph Lockyer of England and Monsieur Pierre Janssen of France discovered Helium in the sun’s corona and Helium becomes the first chemical discovered outside the earth and its takes its name from the Greek word for the sun, Helios. Besides that, a total Solar Eclipse was used to prove Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity by showing that gravity can bend light. The evidence therefore shows that many theories arise from the occurrence of the Solar Eclipse.
