2

Some seeds fell by the way side. The birds came and devoured them.

3 Some fell upon stony places, where their roots could not grow deep. When the sun was up, they were scorched, and because they had no deep roots, they withered away easily. 4

Some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up and choked them….

6 …… but others fell onto good soil and grew well. In time, they bore fruit, some thirty times, some sixty times the original seed. 7 This is the parable of the sower. When anyone hears a wise teaching and does not pay careful attention to it, the word which was sown in his heart is easily snatched away. The man who received seed by the way side is like a man who hears a wise teaching and later on does not pay careful attention to it. 8

The word which was sown like seed in his heart is easily snatched away.

9 The man who receives the seed in stony places is like the person who receives a wise word with open arms. But he did not have deep roots so he perseveres for a little while, but when difficult times come and troubles arise, he quickly turns away from the word. 10 The man who receives the seed among the thorns is like a man who hears wisdom, but his desire for the things of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the wisdom like thorns and he becomes unfruitful. 11 …. but the man who receives the seed in good soil is like the man with a heart that receives a wise instruction and understands it. Not only does he understand the wise word, but he applies it and allows the seed to bear fruit, 12
