Long-term No Answer from Law for Hindus

• Mass scale illegal land grabbing by Christian community from Tribes has been going unabated – 3042 complaints are filed between 1991 to 2007 due to land grabbing – Only 1410 are resolved and 224.64 hectors of tribal land has been restored

• In the Firingia Block under Kandhamal sub Division alone, out of 18 existing churches built and 17 churches are erected on encroached land

The December Riots and Kandhamal • The Murder of Swamiji on 23August 2008 cannot be viewed in isolation • It is directly linked with the developments during DEC 2007 riots in Kandhamal when there was world wide effort by the media to malign the secular image of India and Indians

The Incident • On the 23rd August, while doing pooja on Janmasthami, the most sacred day for Hindus, militant Christians entered into the Ashram premises at about 8.00 p.m. and pumped bullets from an AK-47 assault rifle on the frail body of an 84 years old Swamijee (Vedanta Keshari Swami Laxanananda Saraswati) at Jalespata Vanabashi Kanyashram in Kondhmal District of Orissa.

Some Facts

• Govt. version Maoists Killed Swamiji and 4 others vis-à-vis the extremist Christians did it: – The DGP of Orissa Police Gopal Nanda now has toned down his Maoist angle and says that ‘there is strong possibility of Maoists killing of Swamiji and others on the point that the arms and ammunitions used in the killing are normally available with the Maoists to control the law and order situation in the state.

• Eye Witness and Circumstantial facts: it’s Church sponsored killing – Around 30 masked young people forced their entry into the residential Girls School (Kanyashrama) set up by Swamiji. at Jalespata in Kandhamal district. – They resorted to firing killing five on the spot. – All the intruders were masked leaving enough suspension that they were local people known to the residents of the school.

• The assassins were brutal: mutilated the bodies after killing with bullet. – They were so brutal that after the death of Swamiji and one lady sanyasini Bhakti Mata they even brutally mutilated the body with sharp weapons. – This shows level of anger and hatred against Swamiji and his cohorts.

Some Facts…contd • Locals have caught hold of suspects and have handed over them to police – At least 4 persons so far have been nabbed by local people suspecting them to be behind Swamiji’s killing. They have been nabbed in two different locations and the suspects are in police custody. – The people caught hold of them in suspicious circumstances. They had clothes of blood stain clothes, masks that were used during swamiji’s killing and so on. – The identity of these people have been established with relations with NGOS especially frontal organizations and funded by Christian funding agencies. – Seven of the killer gang escaped from Kandhamal district in a 407 Tata vehicle. When they were chased their was exchange of fire with the Police on the same night of the incident. – On 26th Aug 08, when 400 / 500 irate crowd gheraoed a Christian habitation in Barakhamba village suspected to be a hide out for 12 off the killer gang, armed CRPF led by a DIG of Police raided after exchange of fire. Arms were recovered, 2 of the assailants died and 2 CRPF jawans got killed. The harbourer couple with injuries died in hospital. Two Hindus died in cross fire.
