ORAL INTERVIEW

WHAT TO DO WHEN ASKING TO DEFINE YOURSELF?

Interview- most purposive form of communication between individuals.

1. Be confident. 2. Greet the interviewer. 3. Introduce the following;

TYPES OF INTERVIEW 1. Information Getting- to get statements from the other person that represents beliefs, attitudes, opinions and feelings. 2. Information Giving- to provide information to the other through instructions, orders, directions, explanations and making assignments. 3. Problem Solving- to assist the other person in other person in defining realistic goals and alternative ways of accomplishing goals. 4. Persuading- to get the other person to adopt his/her point of view about something. Convincing. 5. Appraising- to review how well the other person is performing in terms of expectations. STRUCTURE OF AN INTERVIEW 1. Opening 2. Body 3. Conclusion

OPENING -should be organized with coherency and unity. -accomplishing two (2) objectives; 1. Establishing rapport 2. Discerning the purpose of the interview *Rapport- commonly established through cordial greetings and reception. - the purpose of the interview should be revealed early. BODY -information sharing, question and answer is conducted, reactions of both parties (interviewer and the interviewee) to feedbacks and ability to progress into conclusions. CONCLUSIONS -includes; 1. Review/summary which major points or relevant ideas are quickly revealed. 2. Orientation towards expectation of what will happen next. 3. Expression of appreciation

1. Background 2. Occupation and work experiences 3. Hobbies and personal interest 4. Future plans.

PREPARATIONS JOB INTERVIEW - a transaction event that needs a thorough preparation of body and mind. PREPARATION OF BODY -refers to considerations for an appearance that will reflect good health, good grooming, poise and wholesome personalities. MIND PREPARATION -refers to intellectual readiness. Preparations for a Job Interview 1. Physical Appearance 2. Intellectual Readiness 3. Confidence Building

DON’Ts 1. Scratching any part of your body. 2. Changing your feet position every second. 3. Drumming the table. 4. Juggling your pen. 5. Winking evey now and then. 6. Laughing to hide fear and anxiety.

SUMMARY: 1. Review your credentials. 2. Make yourself familiar with the company. 3. Prepare questions and answers. 4. Be careful of your appearance. 5. Be prompt. 6. Be prepared.
