What is an OPTICAL INSTRUMENT? •Optical instrument is a device that acts on light in some desired way ,such as to produce magnification or diffraction.
SOME OPTICAL INSTRUMENTS ARE :• • • •
TELESCOPE . BINOCULAR. PERISCOPE. MICROSCOPE.
• Sextant.
TELESCOPE • Telescope is a device that permits distant and faint objects to be viewed as if they were much brighter and closer to the observer . • Telescopes are typically used to observe the skies.
BINOCULAR • Binocular optical instrument that magnifies distant objects. • It consists of two telescopes that can be focused simultaneously by means of a thumbscrew and that are usually capable of independent adjustment for each eye. • Each telescope is equipped with a small concave lens and a large convex lens.
PERISCOPE • This optical instrument is used for conducting observations from a concealed or protected position, a simple periscope consists essentially of reflecting mirrors at opposite ends of a tube with the reflecting surfaces parallel to each other and at a 45° angle to the axis of the tube.
MICROSCOPE •Microscope is an optical instrument used to a magnified image of minute objects or minute details of objects.
Sextant • Sextant is an optical instrument used for the measurement of angular distance between two objects. • The chief use of sextant is in navigation.
