Chapter 1 1. INTRODUCTION We often interact or run into more health-conscious Indians today, watching their calorie intake and regularly partaking in exercise or yoga to stay fit and healthy. It is a lifestyle we should all seek to emulate, especially given the distressing news – in spite of 2/3rds of India being under 35 years of age, India is counted amongst the most unfit countries in the world. 1 in 3 Indians is classified as medically unfit, suffering from easily preventable lifestyle diseases.
People often consider that online fitness training is not going to help any more as compare to physical fitness training. In the age of social media, anybody can identify as an “expert” and promote themselves as such without necessarily backing it up. You want to make sure that your trainer is certified and qualified to train.
“You need to make sure that your trainer has the education to back up the workouts they're leading you through,” says Juliette Walle, a personal trainer and education director for modelFIT. “Whether they studied athletic training or exercise science in university, or they have a certification (NASM, GGFI, and ACSM are the most common), this means there will be a method to their workout plans and coaching style, as well as a level of safety for you as the client. Similarly, make sure your trainer has their CPR-AED certification. This is so important for your safety in any exercise program.”
1.1 CONCEPT OF E-GYMMING In this era of digitization where everything is available at a single click, the latest trend that is taking the internet by storm is the concept of E –Gymming or Electronic – Gymming. If you are one of those people who love their bed and have to be dragged out to get some exercise then this new trend is the solution. Electronic Gymming or working out by watching videos is exactly like getting a gym membership however there is no fee involved and it’s completely free. On the other side, this concept can have its drawbacks. While exercising in a group can be motivational but doing it all by yourself is a boring task, but if you tap into the right videos, you’ll not get bored. One of the reasons people get bored is because of the repetitiveness and the same old boring lectures. What can help overcome this problem is motivational speeches and promoting fitness in an entertaining way.
