Oil Palm Precission Agriculture With UAV Imagery

PT Bentara Tabang Nusantara (BETA) is a company engaged in the design, production, and operation of unmanned aerial system. BETA offers products and services to meet the market needs and developing new technologies

BETA brings the spirit of innovation in advanced technology especially on unmanned systems. Always inspiring and accommodate new ideas for better future

Keeping “as simple as possible, but not simpler” is our inspiration for future innovation. At BETA, we believe that complex problem could be solved using simple solution with the help of creativity and technology

Typical Common Method Typical Common Method • Traditional Scouting • Traditional scouting requires spending hours and hours of visualizing • Involves manual operations, ineffective techniques • Limitation of human/labor resources (Not on demand) • Repeated dull tasks (i.e., Palm census) • Not a pleasant environment to work (hot, humid) • Hazard/ Safety (Falling from trees, bugs, snakes, etc) • Generates Inaccurate/biased statistics • Requires expert knowledge/Post processing (i.e., lab analysis of data) • Generates limited information (Does not provide comprehensive result) • Ignored parameters due to measurement’s difficulties (i.e., tree height, canopy diameter, tasks that involves climbing trees)

• Satellite remote sensing • Cost • Low resolution • Difficulties of access (Not on-demand)

• Ground sensing • Time consuming • Limited field of view

Typical Common Method Problem Statement • Plant densities are an important and limiting factor for growth, Nutritional status, fruiting and hence for a plantation’s yield • Optimal plant densities depend on different factors, such as cultivars, climate, soil characteristics, land preparation… • Refilling of canopy gaps and correction of non-optimal plant densities are of high priority for a good plantation management

• Conventional method, solely based on visual observation, inaccurate, particularly when coverage is large and dominant topography is hillocky.

Typical Common Method UAV Imagery as a Solution • Tree Counting • Identifying Unhealthy Plants • Density Calculation • Estimating Tree Counts for a Given Area (AOI) • And many more !

Typical Common Method 3d Modelling & Orthomosaic

Typical Common Method Estimating Palm tree counts in a selected area of interest

Typical Common Method Identification of Poor Spots

Typical Common Method Identifying Unhealthy Palm • Based on Areial Imagery Ortorectifiaction • Top View of every plants, with GSD (ground sampling distance) around 10 cm/pixel

Typical Common Method Plant Health • Healthy plants have a strong near infrared reflectivity, called the "Red Edge".

Typical Common Method Crown Size Measurement

Typical Common Method And Many More… • RGB Camera results (orthomosaics and 3D models) can be used to observe many things • Flood, river, irrigation, plantation, even Palm Oil Theft.

• Research against crop health analysis using multispectral camera is still limited • Thus, there are still so many possibilities for data extraction • Pesticide/insecticide use • Soil Condition , etc.
