Martin Media Relations Office 216-433-2406 [email protected] RELEASE: 07-020 PUBLIC INVITED TO VIEW LANDING OF SPACE SHUTTLE ATLANTIS Cleveland--The public is invited to the Visitor Center Auditorium at NASA's Glenn Research Center on Thursday, June 21, to view the landing of STS-117 Space Shuttle Atlantis. Landing is scheduled for 1:54 p.m. at Kennedy Space Center, Fla. Alternate landing opportunities are available at back-up landing locations at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif. and White Sands Test Facility, N.M. The STS-117 mission, originally scheduled for 11 days, was extended by two days so astronauts could repair a peeled-back thermal blanket near Atlantis' tail. The STS-117 crew also helped install a new truss segment, unfurled a new pair of power-generating solar arrays, and activated a rotating joint, which will allow the new solar arrays to track the sun. Admission to the Visitor Center is free and is wheelchair accessible. Access to the Glenn Visitor Center is limited to U.S. citizens. All adult visitors must present government-issued photo identification upon entering the center's main gate. All vehicles are subject to inspection.
