Malaysia has been independent of her colonial masters for 51 years but the problems emanating from that era still cannot see the light of day. The colonial masters were partially irresponsible and unthinking idiots for allowing a young nation to be saddled with unneeded problems that should have been exorcised before the granting of independence was made. Still, these problems found here are not as serious as those that were either left behind deliberately or otherwise in places like Palestine, Africa and South Asia. Yet, here, we cannot excuse the ruling class for the continuing burdens that still serve to divide the people of this country. They must share the blame, too. The NEP was introduced to erase the economic chasms that exist in this country and to redress the imbalances among the various races. But such political ideals were not matched by actual practices on the ground or the direction in which it was supposed to take. The NEP became a useful tool to enrich a small group of people who were important to the office of the prime minister when Dr M was in power and he was in power for 22 years. That long a time was enough to ensure that some people were millionaires several times over, and huge business empires sprung up, seeemingly, in just a few flicks of the eyelid. There was so much money and only so many pockets that at one point Dr M wanted to use some of it to build a great bridge to connect Sumatra to the peninsula. Much of that lovely scenario vanished in a puff of smoke after the 1997 Asian crisis, but all the while, the common man in the street, or perhaps the kampung, was never much in the picture. Fast forward to today, and we find that the ruling class still has not learned much from the past. The mistakes and the wrong road taken in the past years have not left any impressions on the younger generation of the ruling class. The many various negative aspects arising from the less-than-ideal implementation of the NEP during the Mahathir era have never gone down well with the minorities in Malaysia, yet the younger turks in the ruling class still will not tolerate any proposed changes or even mere suggestions to eliminate or reduce such shamefully longstanding and unjust inadequacies. Mere suggestions not permitted at all in a supposedly open and democratic society ? Must they be lambasted ?? Must they be screwed ??? These young turks, also viewed as the country's race supremacists, still cannot shed the myopia that shackled the country for nearly 30 years and which incidentally brought much harm to the nation and those who truly could have contributed unprecendented progress to the country. A lot of brilliant minds have left our shores for good, yet, these young turks (race supremacists) of today still continue to parrot the same style and language of the yesteryears.
These race supremacists ( but not racist sups or racial sups ) do not realise that what they are doing for the nation, is like cutting the nose to spite the face. They do not realise at all that others view them as people born to be destined as humans with shallow minds. These people may be accepted as our race supremacists for this land but they will never be accepted as our superiors in forging nationhood. What we see in them are really evil voodoo witchdoctors who, upon seeing a sick patient in a village, accused healthy passers-by of being the cause of the man's illness. What they were truly unable to do was to figure out that they should be getting the man to the nearest hospital where he could receive the correct diagnosis and treatment. Why criticise others when you don't want to identify the real causes ?
