Generally the weather was clear. Chairman of central official moon-sighting committee of Pakistan "Mufti Munee-bur-Rahman" also informed me on my mobile phone that he has officially announced that Tuesday 20 october 2009 is the 30th shawwal and 1st Zul-qadah 1430 will fall on Wednesday 21 October 2009. …………………………. Easy moon sighting before sunset on 29th or 30th day Tuesday, 20 October 2009 (Pakistan: 30 Shawwal 1430 Easily seen before sunset

Today (Tuesday 30 Shawwal 1430 = 20 October 2009 in Pakistan) the conditions of the moon were very excellent in Pakistan , hence I sighted the moon myself 13 minutes before the sunset in Karachi. Sky was clear. We were 9 persons in Nazimabad no.4. First of All my friend and student Molvi Ihsanullah sighted it 16 minutes before the sunset then I sighted 3 minutes after him, then in 5 minutes one by one all other 7 persons became able to sight it easily. I educated them to find out the exact altitude and azimuth of the moon on sky by means of observing the altitude and azimuth of Sun. I did this work with full attention since morning. Sunset in Karachi was 19:01 (UT+6) and moonset was 20:20 (UT+6). At 20:05 the moon disappeared from my eyes in light pollution while it disappeared for Molvi Ihsan at 20:07 in light pollution. A high building also made its visibility difficult for him, otherwise I think he was able to see it 5 minutes more.

5 Molvi Ihsan is 24 years old and don't wear eye glasses while I am 36 years Old and my right eye is operated due to road accident. Right eye number is -2 and left is -4.5. When I sighted the moon at 18:48 (UT+6) then its conditions were as follows: Altitude: 16.6 degrees Relative Azimuth = - 24.6 Elongation = 28.3 Degrees Age = 55 hours 14 minutes Lag. = One hour 20 minutes Phase = 6.18 % Magnitude = -6.71 Moreover, I requested the members of the moon sighting committees of our institute "Jamia-tur-Rasheed" and my friends all over Pakistan to try to sight such a healthy moon before sunset. Alhamdulillah at more than 16 Places, our members and friends very easily sighted this moon Zero (i.e. with sunset) to18 minutes before local sunset times. 1. Maulana Khaleel + 30 persons (14 minutes before the sunset - Karachi) 2. Maulana Mubashshir + 11 persons (some minutes before sunset - Abbotabad, Sarhad) 3. Maulana Nisar + 4persons (at sunset - Mansehrah, NWFP) 4. Maulana Nafees + one person (11 minutes before, Karachi) 5. Riaz Alam + one person (8 minutes before the sunset - Islamabad) 6. Maulana Ishaq + 15 persons (Himself 18 minutes before & others 10 minutes before, Ghotki, Sindh) 7. Major (R) Nasir (10 minutes before, Clifton, Karachi) 8. Qari Mansoor (at sunset, Borewala, Punjab) 9. Maulana Ibraheem + 2 persons (7 minutes before, Kemari, Karachi) 10. Maulana Nazeer + 7 persons (3 minutes before, Ghotki, Sindh) 11. 15 friends of Maulana Ihtishamul-Haq & Riazul-Haq Aasiabadi ( 3 minutes before sunset, Kharan, Balochistan) 12. 3 friends of Maulana Ihtishamul Haq Aasiabadi (16 minutes before, Gomazak, Balochistan) 13. Maulana Mujee-bur-Rahman + 9 Persons (6 minutes before, Quetta) 14. Maulana Abdul-Qahhar + 3 persons (8 minutes before, Pishin, Baluchistan) 15. Maulana Amjad + 4 Persons (15 minutes before, Kark, Kohat, Sarhad)

Note: It is to be noted here that 20 October 2009 was 30th Shawwal 1430 in Pakistan because the previous month Ramadhan finished on 29th day (= 20 September 2009). If Ramadhan had been 30 days long then it would have been 29th Shawwal on 20 October 2009, resultantly we could have said that we observed the crescent moon countrywide before sunset on 29th day of Shawwal. Note 2: Pdf of this report with important data and weather conditions is attached.

6 Note 3: This is not first time, Alhamdulillah, we have sighted the moon before sunset, many times countrywide. Muhammad Sultan Alam Head of Research Committee / Astronomy Department / Jamia'-tur-Rasheed Ahsanabad, Karachi.Pakistan. http://www.esnips.com/user/moonsighting http://www.kulyatushariah.edu.pk/jrks/jsp/ Cell # 00923332213520 For Important data look at the next pages:
