Teaching Observation Report Class: Year 4A School: SR Sengkurong Subject: Mathematics No of students: 29 Date: 13th August 2009 Time: 10.30 – 11.30 a.m. (1 hour) In this lesson, the teacher teaches Mental computations (MCT) in the computer laboratories where she can use the facilities that are available in the room for examples computer, projector and the white screen. The students’ tables are all facing the teacher’s table as well as the white board. The students sat in pairs. After break time, all the students of primary 4A lined up outside the ICT room and greeted their teacher as they entered the room. The students also brought with them their MCT exercise book. Teacher gave instructions to the students before she started the lesson. She then gave the MCT questions right away to the students by using power point presentations which she has prepared earlier. Not only that, she timed each slide so that the students can view the questions in the allotted time. In this lesson, the students were given 50 questions. At first, the students were given ample time to answer the questions and then when they have finished answering all the 50 questions they were given another 8 seconds to check their answers. This way, the teacher does not have to read the questions to the students. The students merely read the questions from the white screen and answer it straightaway in their exercise book. This is also practiced during PSR MCT examinations. Though the students are in Year 4, this will expose them to PSR MCT examinations format. This was first implemented in year 2008 PSR examinations.
