IMPROVEMENTS IN SURFACE MINE BLASTING FOR SAFE AND ECONOMIC MINE WORKING PRESENTED BY VINODH KUMAR.N.R MINING ENGINEERING DR.T.T.I.T

INTRODUCTION INCREASE IN SURFACE MINING OPERATIONS. DRILLING AND BLASTING. NUISANCES DUE TO BLASTING. IMPROVING THE BLASTING EFFICIENCY BY USING BLAST CONTROL PLUG AND AIRDECK-TECHNOLOGY.

OBJECTIVE MINIMIZING BLAST NUISANCES. MINIMIZING EXPLOSIVE CONSUMPTION. IMPROVE POWDER FACTOR. IMPROVE FRAGMENTATION. REDUCTION IN BLASTING COST.

IMPROVEMNTS IN BLASTING TECHNIQUES • BLAST CONTROL PLUG TECHNOLOGY.

• AIR DECK TECHNOLOGY BY USE OF WOODEN SPACERS.

PRINCIPLE OF BLAST CONTROL PLUGS

ADVANTAGES WITH BLAST CONTROL PLUG TECHNIQUE OVER CONVENTIONAL BLASTING • Improvement in fragmentation by 20%. • Reduction in boulder formation by 20-25%. • Elimination of venting of explosive through the drill holes reduces fly rock. • Reduction in dust and noise. • Increase in burden and spacing. • Reduction in drilling and blasting cost. • Reduction in back break and explosive consumption by 20-25% with improvement in powder factor.

AIR DECKING • GAS BAGS. • EMPTY CEMENT BAGS. • WOODEN SPACERS.

CONSTRUCTION OF WOODEN SPACERS

METHOD OF AIR DECK CHARGING USING WOODEN SPACERS

BLAST HOLE CHARGE PATTERN

ADVANTAGES WITH AIR DECKING WITH CONVENTIONAL BLASTING

• Burden and spacing can be increased. • Drilling can be reduced by 43%. • Explosive Charge is reduced by 40%. • Powder factor is increased from 5.83 tonnes per kg to 15.02 tonnes per kg. • Good fragmentation. • Cost per ton is reduced by 42%. • Reduction in ground vibration 14mm/sec to 7 mm/sec.

from

CONCLUSION • Blast control plug technique and Air deck technology have significantly reduced  Ground vibration. Fly rock. Noise and dust dispersion. Back break. Minimizes explosive consumption. Improved powder factor and fragmentation. Reduces blasting cost.
