Kerry Sun Hey everybody so, my name is Kerry Sun and I am from beautiful Calgary, Alberta. It would be my pleasure to be able to serve as your new novice rep this year. I am in First year and I am hoping to do a double major in International Relations and Environmental Policy and Practice. Why should you all vote for me? I have a vast amount of leadership experience. I served on Student Council in High school and helped to plan the annual welcome back bake sale to raise money for events during the school year. I have helped organize the annual Big Band Dinner Dance for my school’s music program which raises money to pay for upcoming tours that my peers and I embark on. As for community service, I have volunteered at a Local rec center helping run day camps for children in elementary school. I teach them how to swim, how to have fun and most importantly how to love themselves and others. What I can bring to Model UN as a novice rep would be my experience in Model UN in high school. I know the procedures of the conferences and I would be able to help you understand them and most importantly how to have fun in model UN. I am very organized, punctual, fun to be around with and I would be able to help you night and day. I am here to serve you and make sure that you have the

time of your life in Model UN.

Laura Anonen Hello fellow delegates! My name is Laura Anonen, and I’m a 3rd year student majoring in political science and environment policy. I am very passionate about politics, international relations, the environment and model UN! In highschool I was a leading member of our model UN club, attending conferences such as SOMA and DPMUN where I won a best delegate honourable mention. As well, I was a leading member of our World Issues club where I helped organize food drives, Christmas toy drives and other events. I have learned a lot over my first two years at U of T and I know what it’s like to be a first year student and to have never attended a model UN conference before. Furthermore, strengths I could bring to the executive of UNSOC include my previous experience from model UN conferences, my knowledge and interest in politics and world issues, previous leadership experience, and I love helping out my peers! Therefore, I feel I have the experience, leadership skills, and enthusiasm needed to be your novice representative. I will always be there for all novices and I’ll do my best to make sure everyone enjoys their experience. Please vote for me, thanks!

Semra Eylul Sevi My name is Semra Eylul Sevi, I am a three years into my political science specialist with a minor in history and equity studies. Working with the UN Society as a novice rep is a great chance to engage with the politically conscious youth in Canada and around the world. I am a strong candidate for the position because the diversity, leadership, and accountability my experience brings to the table. As the former President of the Equity Studies Students’ Union and through my course work in equity studies I have a solid grasp of the issues, challenges, and opportunities that diversity brings. I have added to this solid grounding by traveling the world, immersing in other cultures, and seeing with my own eyes the cultural mosaic that we live in. I bring leadership through my positions as President of not only the Equity Students’ Union, but also the Anatolian Turkish Students’ Association. In my time as President of the Anatolian Turkish Students’ Association I effectively integrated dozens of students to the University. As a journalist for The Varsity and The Gargoyle I understand and believe in the need for accountability and transparency, and as a research group analyst for the G8 I have put this into practice bringing facts to light. I have the experience, the drive, and the desire to be an effective member of the UN society as a novice representative, my name is Semra Eylul Sevi, thank you.

Cemre Pehlivanoglu Honorable delegates, My experiences date back to year 2005. In 3 years, I participated in 8 international conferences across the Europe. I saw various formats and took part not only as a delegate, but also as a press member, ambassador and a judge. Integrating into the Model UN environment might seem daunting at first. After all, it is a challenging process that requires awareness of the current events, rhetorical skills, self-confidence and active participation in the quorum. However, having gone through these challenges myself once, I realize what is expected of novice members. I will make sure that they meet up to the expectations and become active members in the esteemed MUN community by the end of the winter term. Practice makes perfect, but there are guidelines to follow. I will also make sure that our fellow members steer their way through each step carefully and the rest will follow smoothly. Delegates can feel free to approach me any time if they have any questions about the procedures and the format of specific conferences. I will be ready to take full responsibility and more than happy to help out the executive. Thank you. Yours truly, Cemre Pehlivanoglu

Mehdi Hussein I am running for first year representative and I feel that I would be an essential asset to the organization. I am ready to accept the responsibility this title bestows which includes addressing the needs and concern of novice UN members to ensure the best possible experience. I have participated and lead debate teams in the past at both the provincial and local level. I believe this illustrates that I am fully capable of completing this task efficiently and effectively. I am outgoing, friendly and very approachable. If one were to have a question, which I did not have the answer for I will indeed make it my mandate to find out the accurate information for them. For the reasons stated above, I feel that I am the best possible candidate for this job.
