Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish is Associate Professor of Medicine at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health of the University of Toronto School of Medicine. He is a Palestinian-Gazan physician who formerly practiced medicine in the Soroka Medical Center in Beer Sheva and in the Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv. At the end of October, Dr. Abuelaish received a Common Ground Award at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, DC, in recognition of his remarkable contribution towards respect and reconciliation between Palestinians and Israelis.
“I raised my children to be soldiers of peace. I believe medicine can be a bridge for peace between Israelis and Palestinians. It is a place where humanity can be discovered, where people are treated without racism and as equals.” Dr. Abuelaish will address the Toronto community – Jews, Christians and Muslims – about the importance of moving past terrible tragedy and pain to build a future founded on human dignity, mutual trust and goodwill.
