Observation, self-assessment • Badminton nets, badminton rackets, shuttles, cones Split the options and the 20/30’s up (drop the divider) - Talk about the double’s tournament get them into their partners (start it on Thursday) ~ 5 mins Warm up (do it with all of them) - Birdie relay race (don’t drop the shuttle) and then have them bounce it (forehand grip first and then backhand grip) - Groups of 3 Send the grade 8’s to the other side of the gym (they can play doubles, play a game and then rotate clockwise (have one team that will stay- everyone will rotate around them) Go over the 3 main points (preparation, execution, follow through. 3 main points that they need to remember When is a clear used? - Recommended strategy used to gain time to return to the center of the court - Defensive clear is a high return that has trajectory similar to a lob in tennis - Hit with an underhand or an overhand ~10 mins Clears (overhead, underhand, overhead backhand, underhand backhand) Overhead forehand clear (preparation: handshake grip, distribute weight evenly on both feet, wrist- cocked position) (execution: pivot and turn, swing forward to contact as high as possible) (Follow through: follow through with racket head, racket should come across the body, push off toward midcourt) - Return forehand clear (overhead) then underhand x10 each - Partner is serving a nice serve at their partner (fairly high) - They are going to return it with a forehand clear (try and hit it behind the cones) - Toss and return clear x10 each - Partner will toss them a short one toss - Partner will return it with an underhand backhand clear ~10 mins Smash Used to put the bird away, can only be hit overhead -self toss and smash, have the shuttle on their racket, toss the shuttle up with an underhand lift and execute a smash. (with a partner- they will keep sending it back to one another) x10 - serve and return smash (with a partner) x10 ~15 mins Kings court doubles - Get them into partners - Can only score points on the king’s side
