News from the August 7th General Meeting Phil Kent The August 7 General Meeting was very interesting, with discussion mainly centered on the planned upgrades and modernization of our Lodge. The first three stages of the modernization were presented to and approved by the membership. These were: • Black-top repaving of the Lodge parking lot ($31,000) • New computerized register system for the Social Quarters and Kitchen operation ($9200) • Repainting of the entire interior of the Lodge ($2800) It was also mentioned that the appraisal made during the refinancing showed that our Lodge is now valued at $2,900,000! Rick has promised to provide a chart posted on the Social Quarters bulletin board showing the status of our progress on the Lodge modernization program as well as a list of candidate future improvements. This is an exciting time for our Lodge … and the General Meetings on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of each month are where we can keep up with the latest plans and provide our input & influence. See you there on Thursday, August 21st. th

From the Governor

Brian Rives It is that time again. I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer. The new "Moose" year has started and our new quota is 31. We hit our quota last year, so this year should not be a problem. The only way to get stronger is to increase membership. We need your help. We will be having our golf outing this year at West Park Country Club on September 26th. Cost is $75.00 per person, the meal will be held afterwards at the Lodge. Sign up sheets will be in the social quarters soon and are also enclosed in this newsletter. November 15th we will be having a Draw Down to support our membership dues. As I promised before, we do not want to raise our dues. This event along with "guest bartenders" is how we are trying to offset the cost of rising dues. We have approval to refinance the building for much needed updates to the Lodge. Pool tables are up and running in the new game room. We are now waiting for some bids for the completion of the room. We have idea's, but we need everyone's help. Please come to the General Membership meetings on the first and third Thursdays of each month. This is EVERYONE"S Lodge, not the Board of Officers. We can not do everything ourselves. Volunteer when you can. A wise man told me if you volunteer just two hours a month, events like shuffle board and pool tournaments would happen more often. Now for the "Thank You" list. Thanks to Jon Parkinson and Tonya Keefer for donating their tips and time on July 4th. They donated the monies received to our membership fund. Thurston, Dan, Wolfe, Mona, and Glayds: thank you for all your help with dinners. Larry Stocks and Pat Smith: thank you for breakfast on the last Sunday of every month. Billy Dawson: thank you for everything you have done in the past couple of months. JD: thanks for setting up the pool tables. Don't forget to donate to "Gimme Five". This is very important and all contributions are tax deductible. If you have any questions about this, See Rick or myself and we will give you a better understanding of what it is about. Last but not least, Congrats to Jo Ann Fields on receiving her green cap. Great job last year and this year as well.

From the Regent

Senior

Mona Wiser First and foremost: From all of the Chapter members: CONGRATULATIONS JO ANN FIELDS ON RECEIVING YOUR GREEN CAP! You did a fantastic job!!! As was stated in the last newsletter, the Chapter membership has decided to increase yearly dues to $30.00 per year. We have since received clarification that the women’s assessment will NOT be increasing by $2.00 per year. Hopefully that means we will not be raising dues again in the next couple of years. Effective immediately, new members will be charged the new rate of $30.00 for dues. They will need a total of $50.00 to sign up ($30.00 for dues, $20.00 for fees). NOTE: Even though we asked Moose International to start our increase of dues as of the dues due September 30, 2008, August people may be charged $30.00. This is based on when Moose International put the information into the system. This August bill would be correct!! We have not heard from any members that this has happened in our chapter but we know it has happened in other chapters. Moose International can override our requests. If there are any questions, please contact Caroline May, Chapter Recorder.

From Administrator

the

Rick Keefer Members and friends we are in the most exciting times here at the moose lodge. If you have not heard we are moving along full force renovating the Lodge. We have received many great ideas from our members, but most importantly we are looking at the dire needs of modernizing our lodge. We have and will continue to outline our intentions at the general meetings for all renovations and purchases as part of the capital improvements, please attend the meetings so you can be involved in this process. Our membership drive has slowed, but I know as always we will continue to spread the good word of the Leesburg Moose and sign new members. I know some of you have heard, we will be having a Draw Down in

November to help with our membership cost, it is important that we make the draw down successful so we do not have to raise the dues this year, so get your tickets early. The upcoming Mystery Bus tour on September 13 promises to be a blast. Tonya and I decided to host this event as a way to spend some great fellowship time with our friends. We have reserved the bus, and the Lodges we will be visiting are so excited to have us. Please see Tonya or myself to sign up. We do have a seating limit so sign up now. As part of the Mystery Bus tour Tonya and I will use any left over funds from the trip and any additional contributions from you to donate to the Gimme Five program. The Gimme Five program is near and dear to our hearts. We have taken an oath to help our Kids at Mooseheart. If you don’t know about the program please see me. Also I would like to congratulate Joann Fields for becoming a Gimme Five chairman. Please help Joann in her efforts. I know she will be along to see you for donations. We will be adding some additional music on Fridays in October. And most important: its Football season & its time to tailgate again. Boy we had a blast last year. Join in the fun every Sunday! As always I have to end by thanking all the folks that make our club so special. Please, if you ever have any concerns, come and see me or attend a Thursday meeting. A big thank you to Tonya and her crew for the great job they do, A big thank you to Billy Dawson who has taken on the role of Director of Maintenance (ha ha) . Billy is in the club everyday working on something. And to all my fellow officers for the hard work they do to make our club successful. Last: thanks to Brian Rives for his vision for the future of our club.

From the Social Quarters Manager Tonya Keefer First, I would like to thank all of you for your continued support in the lodge and in the Social Quarters.

As you all know with out our loyal members and fabulous bartenders we would not be as successful as we are. Business is slowly picking up as the summer comes to an end. So with that, please bring in your family, a friend, or even your coworker, so they can experience what we all love … Great times, grand people many laughs, maybe even some moose milk. Lunches are gaining in popularity so take a menu to work and call ahead. Every Wednesday from 5:30 until close we have free pool and shuffleboard, so why not come out and challenge yourself and others in some healthy competition. You never know just how good you are until you try. I would love for any teen interested in forming a committee to please contact me. Activities, dances, or events you would like to see happen here at our lodge. My first thought was a teen back to school dance. What do you teenagers think? Please contact Tonya Keefer at 703777-8487. To our ladies behind the bar: Stacy, Julie, Jennifer, Sam, and Rachel, a huge thank you is in order. You all work so hard and the extra work you do is so appreciated. You all mean so much to our lodge. Thank You So Much Ladies! Lastly, I would like to thank all of our male members who have continued to help. Trash detail, stocking of beer, changing kegs and of course ice is taken care of many times by you … so Thank you so much. Without your constant support it would not be the same. I am and all of our fabulous ladies behind the bar are truly grateful.
