Red Cross Monthly Update

October is Home Fire Prevention Month 1Home fires are America’s biggest disaster threat. More than 93 percent of the 74,000 disasters the Red Cross responds to each year are fire related- that’s approximately 180 a day! 0The American Red Cross responds to these disasters to provide comfort and aid to meet the immediate needs of families affected by home fires.

October Health & Safety classes at the office~ Call the office to pre-register for a class.



***Adult CPR, on October 9th @ 6pm *** Adult CPR, Child/Infant CPR & First Aid on October 18 th @ 9 am- 6 pm ***First Aid on October 21st @ 6pm ~~LIFEGUARD CLASSES are scheduled to start Oct 12th. Please call the office for information and to register!



Upcoming Blood Drives ~~~ Thursday, October 2nd @ Rockford UMC 12 noon-6 pm ~~~ Saturday, October 4th @ Burkettsville Shelter House 8 am-1 pm ~~~ Monday, October 13th Maria Stein Knights of St John 12 noon-6 pm ~~~ Wednesday, October 22nd @ St Henry American Legion 12:30 pm-6:30 pm ~~~Monday, October 27th @Ft Recovery American Legion 12 noon-6 pm



2 Disaster Service Volunteers have volunteered to respond to the Hurricane affected states. Barb Reder is in Lousiana & Ron Obringer is in Texas. THANKS BARB & RON!!!!!!



In the month of September, the Mercer Co. Chapter provided assistance to a family that had a devastating fire in their home. They were very grateful to have the assistance of food, clothing, & shelter provided by our chapter.



Radio interviews were held at WCSM & WKKI to promote blood services, The Ride for the Red, & the many other services provided by the Red Cross. Thanks to WKKI & WCSM for their continued support!



On September 24th our region, The Toledo Area Region of the American Red Cross, held their annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner. Receiving an award this year was Mike Osterholt for the Special Citation for Exceptional Volunteer Service award. He believes in the American Red Cross and its mission and because of that he has provided countless hours, money and support to the American Red Cross and the Go-Kart Grand Prix Fundraiser for our chapter. THANKS MIKE!



First Annual RIDE for the RED was held on Sat Sept 27th with 34 bikes participating & over $1,800 raised. Thank you to all the participants and to the many volunteers, because of all of you, the ride was a success and the money raised will help our local chapter to continue to provide the emergency assistance that many of our friends and neighbors have come to rely on. Thanks to Celina Eagles for their major sponsorship!!
