MORAY PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER – MARCH 2009 By now I hope that you will have subscribed to our webpage and are enjoying the many new features which can be viewed. I have been looking myself and am really pleased with this new look site. As ever, we are busy in school and the children are doing some super work in terms of the capacities of Curriculum for Excellence. There are many different ways for them to show that they are Successful Learners, Confident Individuals, Effective Contributors and Responsible Citizens and we are very proud of how things are taking shape. We could not do this without support from home though and so I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you all for helping us and working with us as we go through a time of great change in Scottish Education.

Within the next couple of weeks we have our Green Flag assessment day and I’d like to wish Mrs Howie, Miss Deans, Miss Brodie, Miss Multani and our Eco Committee the best of luck as they strive to gain this award. I will be the proudest person in Moray if this happens because they have all worked tirelessly for this award and so deserve success. Good luck to you all.

Our football team had mixed fortune at the recent round of league games. They beat Sacred Heart and Beancross but were beaten by Bowhouse who have now knocked them off the top of the league. There are more games to play though so we’ll wait and see what happens. Well done boys though. Thanks to Mr Connochie and Bob Niven for their time and for all those who have supported our football events. Our recent visit by Dutch teachers was very successful and it seemed that they all enjoyed their day here in Moray. As ever, our pupils made us proud and handled all questions very well indeed. Eight pupils acted as guides during the day and they came in for special praise from Falkirk Council staff and from our visitors from Holland. Well done everyone.

Our trips out of school continue and our P7s will be visiting The Science Centre in Glasgow as well as having an outing to the Crucial Crew event. This is an annual event organised by emergency services to give pupils the opportunity to see how they respond to different situations. I can’t tell you more than that because we are asked not to prime them before they go – we need an element of surprise to see how they react. Good luck P7s – you will have a great time!!! Top school wins the Golden Helmet Award.

P6 pupils will be going to The Time Capsule this month for some physical activities and this will hopefully be fun as well as giving an opportunity to try out some new sports. At this time I am able to alert you to an additional holiday for pupils this session due to an increased number of staff development days for this session and the next two. We will now be closed to pupils on Monday May 18th. All councils have been granted these additional days over three years to help us plan for Curriculum for Excellence. Before that though, we have our spring break which starts on Friday April 3rd at the normal finish times of 2.45 and 3.15 p.m. School will re-open on Monday April 20th Our annual May holiday will be on Monday 4th. Mrs Dickson will be returning to work after the spring holiday and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Molloy for the wonderful work she has done during Mrs Dickson’s absence. It has been a pleasure to work with such a fine young teacher. We will miss her humour and her talent for teaching. PTA will be meeting on Wednesday March 25th at 7.00 p.m. Please note we are back to Wednesday. Church Service is planned for Friday April 3rd at 10.00 in Zetland Parish and children from Mr Munn and Miss Mitchell’s class will be leading the service.
