All the cadets have had the chance to go Pulling (rowing) in Gloucester recently. We are asking for £1.50 donation from each cadet going pulling to cover the cost of fuel. We have to use our own cars to transport the cadets to Gloucester and back. If you are available and can help with transport please let us know.
Some of the cadets recently went on a joint summer camp at RAF Cottesmore. They flew their own planes, went shooting, swimming and played sports and visited various sections on the camp. RAF Cottesmore is the
Some parents/carers will remember Pete Gow, he has returned to the ship after some extended shore leave. Pete is a qualified communications instructor so expect cadets to come home talking dots, dashes, and phonetics. We all welcome Pete back to the ship and hope to extend communications training when we get our new hand held radios, enabling cadets to gain a new qualification.
Those cadets who have yet to take their swim test we will be hiring the pool soon so they can take the test. They need to swim 40 metres then tread water for 3 minutes, they will need to wear an old T shirt whilst doing this.

Calendar The calendar on the back of this newsletter is for cadets information, we have a white board on the 1/4 deck showing cadets what’s on. The calendar is changeable as places for pulling etc arise. We will take every opportunity to get the cadets doing activities when they can. The 1st L/t warns “Shipshape” that as the cadets are only in their best uniform once a month it better be good or else!!

We will be taking every opportunity to take cadets boating, so they will have to look at the information board when leaving the unit. The chance to go boating is sometimes a last minute phone call so Cadets will need to be flexible with their rig. Cadets going boating need to be at the unit on time, we will not wait as time on the water is precious. More opportunities will arise soon including sailing and canoeing. “Shipshape” would like to express its thanks to Mr Kerslake. During the summer he tirelessly did a number of car boot sales raising much

teers. We are forging close affiliations with other cadet youth organisations in the Forest and we will soon be looking to make our unit more secure by erecting a fence and building an extension to cater for more cadets. Recruiting more cadets will be a priority for the near furure and cadets will be encouraged to invite young people they know down to see what we do and hopefully join in. If any parents/carers can join in with our recruitment drive then please let us know.”
THE STAFF TEAM AT THE UNIT NEED YOUR FEEDBACK AND WE DESPARATELY NEED MORE ADULTS TO COME AND HELP WITH THE PASA. AT THE MOMENT WE ARE STILL HAVING TO USE TRAINING STAFF TO COVER EVENTS. THEY ALREADY DO A LOT FOR THE CADETS. WE ARE ONLY ASKING FOR A SMALL AMOUNT OF YOUR TIME TO HELP. REMEMBER ITS YOUR CHILDREN WE ARE TRYING TO TEACH. UNLESS WE GET MORE ADULT MEMBERS ON THE PASA THEN I BELIEVE THE TRAINING SIDE WILL SUFFER. MEANING LESS ACTIVITIES FOR THE CADETS...COME ON IF WE ALL DO A LITTLE BIT THEN IT MAKES IT EASY FOR ALL.
