“Bits and Pieces of Info to Make Life on the Ranch Easier to Manage”

What’s Happening Around Town Wow! Did the week fly by for you? Even though this has been a short week, we have been busy with many activities and have been learning many new things! We have memorized two new verses this week including Ephesians 6:1 and James 1:19. The verses go very well together because they remind us to listen AND obey. We also discussed the importance of listening and obeying those individuals who point us to Jesus such as our pastors and teachers. These community helpers have been given important jobs from the Lord, so we made encouragement cards and pictures for our pastors and teachers. The students practiced listening and obeying as we reviewed all of our vowels and their sounds and as we practiced grouping items in math by size and shape. The students are doing a nice job, and they seem to be picking up the material pretty quickly. We had our first oral phonics evaluation today over the short vowel sounds. These results will be used as a measuring tool to monitor the growth of our students over the course of the year! I trust that all of the students will continue to grow in a variety of areas by God's grace! In closing, I want to wish you all a wonderful weekend! I hope that you will be able to join the entire ACA family for a picnic at the Saylorville Sandpiper Recreation Area on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m.! Please bring a main dish and a side dish to share! I look forward to seeing you there! Love, Miss Hult

Answers to Questions on the Ranch

A: I encourage the students to evaluate their own handwriting. They look for their personal best in each line and make a check mark beside that letter. Sometimes they get a little carried away and put a mark next to each letter, but the goal is to get the students to think about the size, shape, and spacing of their letters. They are very quick to catch when I do not do my personal best on the board, and I feel that they are often pretty accurate marking their own personal best as well.

A: We begin each Monday to learn a new verse for the week which corresponds with a letter of the alphabet. We put actions with each verse, and we talk about the meaning of the words when we practice each day. By Thursday, the students usually know the verse and are able to say it on their own. On Friday, each student recites the verse and gets to add a link to our memorization chain. This chain reminds us of the importance of hiding God's Word in our hearts because His Word tells us how to be saved and how to grow in Him. I hope the students will know and understand at least 26 verses by the end of kindergarten but hopefully many, many more! I encourage you to discuss the verses at home and review with your child because God's Word is powerful!
