A. Signal of the Approaching Birth 1. Abdominal cramps a. False pains- is the pain that are infrequent and irregular b. True pains – are pains that are increasing in frequency , intensity and duration with the passage time
2.. Escape of fluid from the vagina - This is the amniotic fluid which has come rupturing of the amniotic sac . The escape of amniotic fluid is the slow dripping at first followed by the flow of contractions of the uterine wall rupture the sac. This is generally followed by appearance of the thick mucous , bloody discharge from vagina known as the “show” .
B. Period of Labor 1. Labor- is the process of giving birth
The process of giving birth a. Preparation- made for the emergence of the fetus from the mothers body. This process takes from 12-16 hours
b. Expulsion it last from 1-3 hours for first born compared with 13-30 minutes for later born children. c. After birth Is the stage when the placenta, the remnants of the ruptured amniotic sac, and the umbilical cord are separated from the wall of the uterus and expelled from the body. This usually takes from 5-30 minutes.
* The normal position of the fetus body during birth is head downward. C. when versus how born 1. Type of birth a. Cephalic or head first also known as “the vertex presentation” . It is the normal process of birth. The head is delivered first followed by the body •
b. Breech here the infants buttocks appears first followed by the legs and finally the head c. Transverse presentation Here the position of the fetus is crosswise in the mother’s uterus.
Types of delivery a. Natural or spontaneous it is a type of delivery where in the fetus emerge into the world on the normal head first position. b. Instrument is a type of delivery which requires to use instruments called “forceps” it full the fetus into birth canal
• C. Caesarean Section • is a type of delivery in which fetus delivered trough a slit made in the material abdominal wall instead through the birth canal
