Our world cannot afford to remain unipolar. The US is still as predatory and callous as ever. Despite the groundbreaking event of a black man getting elected into the White House, nothing has really changed. 'Change' was the motto of his successful election bid but President Obama has changed little America's behaviour. We need to do the change ourselves instead. We need to have a multipolar world. Guantanamo is still operating, and even torture is still ongoing. If you think the US was chastised after the stories of Abu Ghraib and Camp X-Ray leaked out, you are wrong. Torture is still being secretly employed by US interrogators and military personnel. America is still seeing civilian casualties as collateral damage and not as acts of wrongful or even criminal conduct. In the past the US did not hesitate to sow the seeds of terror as long as the seeds were 'friendly' to the US. Think of Jimmy carter, Lyndon Johnson, the CIA, Ronald Reagan and many others. Today, the new White House administration is still following in their footsteps. Terror groups are growing in strength in Pakistan and in Africa and eleswhere because the Us wants to get involved on the ground yet at the same time fully unable to quell the fire. The result can be seen so very clearly in NW Pakistan today. The extremist groups are now more or less on equal strength with the central government. Sri Lanka is the opposite. Due to the absence of foreign involvement, the SL army has being able to subdue the terror group on its own soil. Perhaps before getting becoming more deeply mired in Afghanistan, Obama might want to study just how SL was able to succeed. The recklessness and callousness of the US right up to today is the reason why we need to have a counterweight to this irresponsible sole superpower. The best candidate to choose as the counterweight is Russia. This nation could easily step into the vacuum left by the demise of the former USSR. Russia should aim to become the other end of a multipolar world. It should start building up its forces to match that of the US which is almost bankrupt. The river of money now flowing from China and a few other countries into the US Federal Reserve is allowing the US to maintain a huge gargantuan war machine for the time being. But this situation might not hold forever. China could collapse under the pressure of supporting this almighty war machine which incidentally also poses a threat to its own security, therefore Russia cannot afford to lose time at all. Russia must start immediately by doing two things. First, build up its defence forces. The country must build up its navy, introduce new powerful nuclear-powered cruisers. The Russian Air Force would be able to acquire stealth aircraft soon and therefore the Russian navy must be able to keep pace with current developments. Powerful cruisers could also be exported to other countries like India and Iran. Iran was attacked by the US Navy on a number of occasions in the past. The sinking of the Iranian frigate Sahand by US forces off the Iranian coast in 1988 surely cannot be yet forgotten. The
killing of nearly 300 Iranian civilians by a US destroyer in the same year is surely again not so easily forgotten. Secondly, Russia must stand up for all the weak and defenceless countries that are so often targeted by the US in the UN Security Council. There is no need to be friendly or be obliging to the US in the Security Council. Russia must oppose all American proposed so-called sanctions aimed at weak nations which are known to oppose US global hegemony. Use the veto if necessary. Remember the evil US always has absolutely no qualms to hijack the SC to benefit itself. Russia must stand up resolutely against such behaviour. The US could take the rest of the world along on its journey to hell if nobody is bothered enough to stop it. If we don't intend to keep company we must oppose the US starting now. Russia must not shirk its historic responsibility. The security and safety of other countries cannot be sacrificed for the selfish needs of one country. The change of presidency in the White House has meant little for the rest of the world. If there's any change, it's the change in size of the US-led NATO war group. It has just grown in size and is expected to continue to grow in the future. We're surely at the edge of a big precipice and we need something or somebody to save us. Prayer alone is not enough. Not anymore. We need another one more superpower.
