Root Canals Can Cripple Geoffrey Gilbert is 51 years old and lived a normal life until about 10 years ago. Over this time, he has had gradual but progressive crippling of his left leg. It began to rotate inward so severely that he was forced to walk on the outside rim of his foot. The mechanics were degenerating hip and knee. One podiatrist offered to cut away part of his calcaneous (heel bone) and reposition it. Another made an orthotic for him, type of brace that forced a slightly more anatomic foot position that reduced the pain considerably, but he could not walk without it. When I saw him in July, his left hip couldn't rotate at all, the muscles in his leg had atrophied severely, and his foot had very little mobility. Please remember, he was normal until about 10 years ago. No one had attempted to find out "why," but instead his physicians were already set to cut. He came to me for prolotherapy, hoping it might help. I was more interested in uncovering the cause, likely to be an, energetic dysfunction in his body. He had number of root canals, including one that had recurrent abscesses and had started prior to the foot problem. It was tooth number 14, upper left bicuspid. German acupuncture connects this tooth with the spleen meridian (energy flow) system, which runs up the inside of the foot, the arch itself, and proceeds up the inside of the leg. Anything hampering the flow of energy of a meridian (such as a dead and infected tooth) could cause problems anywhere along the path. There is a simple test to check for tooth involvement. Simply injecting a small amount of local anesthetic into the gum under the tooth can temporarily take the interference out of the circuit. I did this and within minutes Geoffrey had more rotation in the left leg than the right, and was able to walk unassisted. His foot moved freely - he was ecstatic! He went off to the dentist to have the infected tooth and tissues removed. Three months later, he returned to the office walking freely without a brace, with nearly full hip rotation and no pain in the leg. The foot was beginning to turn back to its normal position. Of course, one cannot say that after 10 long years of continual insult his foot and leg will return to normal, but fixing the source sure beats cutting up his calcaneous. How could a tooth, so far away, produce such profound effects? The body is interconnected energetically. Science is now able to document energy flows that are every bit as important to the health of tissues as is blood flow. A dead tooth can obstruct energy flow in its corresponding system. The incisors are connected to the bladder/kidney flows. The eye teeth to the liver/gallbladder. The lower molars and upper bicuspids are connected to the lung/large

intestine. And the upper molars, lower bicuspids are connected to the stomach/spleen flows. What about the wisdom teeth? They are connected to the small intestine/heart meridian flows. This does not mean you will get a disease if you have a dead tooth, but I have seen disease in each one of these systems caused by dead teeth. However, it's been more likely, in my experience, that there will be pain or dysfunction along the energy path. Hence, if you have a root canal or dead tooth, or even a dental implant, and there are unexplained new symptoms; pick up an inexpensive paperback acupuncture book. If your symptoms are located along the path of the affected meridian (determined by the tooth location) have it checked out by a competent biologic dentist. The problem now gets even more complicated. The legendary Weston Price, DDS, found decades ago that root canals and cavitations (sites of bone infection from improperly removed teeth) were sites of bacterial infection. These could endlessly seed the body with bacteria and terrible immunesystem-destroying toxins from decaying organic material in the decomposing tooth, still imbedded in the body. Patients should be warned to be wary of unexplained problems, even at a distant future date, after a root canal, tooth removal, or dental implant. There is now general consensus that bacterial infection from periodontal disease is a significant cause of heart disease. So why is it so hard to believe other mouth infection sites are responsible for infected or dysfunctional joints, muscles, or other tissues? Two excellent books on this topic are Root Canal Cover-Up, by George Meinig, and the latest, The Roots of Diseases, by Robert Kulacz, DDS and Thomas Levy, MD, JD. In the latter, Dr. Kulacz details how he healed various disorders from headaches to congestive heart failure, simply by diagnosing and treating sub clinical dental infections. Most integrative medical doctors are aware of a technique called neural therapy (the local anesthetic trick I described above). They can help diagnose you and direct you to a skilled biologic dentist aware of this insidious problem.
