Native Son Project For your Native Son Project you have one of two options – work with a passage, or work with the book as a whole. Option A – Work with a passage Pick a 3-5 page passage of suspense / violence that you think captures the mood and style of Wright’s masterwork. Then choose one of the following: •

Create a graphic novel which accurately captures the action, mood and feel of the passage.

Write a new passage which parallels the passage you chose – it should look like a lost section of Wright’s novel – exploring the mind of Bigger or adding another act of violence that was cut from Wright’s final work.

Write an essay which analyzes how Wright uses slow action and description to create mood and suspense. Your essay must use many examples from the passage to support your thesis.

Option B – Work with the book as a whole Pick one of the discussion questions and use it as an essay question. Your essay must use examples from the book to support your point. Your essay should have substantial detail and must use evidence from all three sections of the novel for support. Whichever option you choose, your project is due Wednesday, November 18th.
