 The Ateneo Bullying Incident

- Occurred on December 19, 2018, what happened was a student from Ateneo used martial arts to attack and intimidate a fellow Atenean in the bathroom. The attacker forced the victim to choose between getting a beating or keeping his dignity. He said that if the victim chooses dignity, “I would make him kneel kiss my shoes, and my genitals.” - This was not the only video, there were also other videos of the boy attacking other boys using martial arts and even a video of him forcing a peer at Ateneo to say, “I am dumb.” - On December 23, the Ateneo management announced that the bully had been dismissed from the school. - What makes the situation confusing is that the mother of the attacker and the attacker himself said that the reason why he attacked was because of “Self-defense.”

 Duterte’s “Sexist” Comments

- President Rodrigo Duterte has been known for making sexist remarks usually in his political speeches in which he is accused of sexism. These might have been intentional jokes.

- Some examples of these remarks include: - On February 7, Duterte Ordered soldiers to not kill female rebels but “shoot them in the vagina so that they would become useless.” - On Saturday, January 27, Akbayan Women called the President an "international embarrassment" and said that he "has no respect for Filipino women,“ where he joked that if Muslim extremists can lure followers with the promise of "42 virgins" in heaven, he would like to "attract" tourists to the Philippines with the same.

- Although there were instances of Duterte standing up to abuses of women/praising women such as: - Thursday, November 17, promised to look into the reported rise in child and sexual abuse cases in the country when he gets back from an overseas trip. - “On the rise itong...child abuse, sexual or battery. And itong crime against women medyo tumataas (Child abuse, sexual abuse, battery is on the rise. And crimes against women are also rising)," he said in his speech at the Davao International Airport before catching a flight to Peru to attend his first Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Summit.

 Duterte’s “Sexist” Comments

- Although there were instances of Duterte standing up to abuses of women/praising women such as: - "Women are heroes," President Rodrigo Duterte said in his message for International Women's Day, celebrated on Wednesday, March 8. -"The entire world can look up to women – for their creativity, and imagination, for their courage and boldness, for their self-sacrifice and charity," Duterte in his message sent to media on Wednesday.

 The Pork Barrel Scam

 The Pork Barrel Scam Priority Development Assistance Fund - The scam was first exposed in the Philippine Daily Inquirer on July 12, 2013, commonly known as Pork Barrel is lump sum budget allocation given to members of congress every year - 200M Php for senators, 70M Php for representatives. - This is supposed to be used for each representative's district, to promote growth and development of the community. This decentralizes government spending, supposedly, the representatives know best what their district needs.

- What happened was the opposite, It was a political scandal involving the alleged misuse of funds by several members of the Congress of the Philippines of their Priority Development Assistance Fund. - The members created “Ghost” organizations to make it look like they are doing projects for the community so that the money can easily go to them without attracting attention from the public that they are not doing community projects.

- One of the main suspects were Janet Lim-Napoles with Philippine Senators Bong Revilla, Jinggoy Estrada, Juan Ponce Enrile, and other congressmen.

 Mocha Uson’s Promotion of “Federalism”

- In August 2018,Mocha released a video that purported to promote federalism, Mocha received a large amount of controversy for its vulgarity and explicit sexual content. In the video, Uson urged her co-host Drew Olivar to do dance touching his crotch and rubbing his chest while singing "I-pepe, i-pepe. I-dede, i-dede. I-pede, pede, pede, pederalismo." (Pussy it, pussy it, boobs it, boobs it. Fede it, fede, fede, federalism). After Olivar's dance, Uson called for applause (palakpakan tayo) during the video. -In April 2017, Uson was part of the president's official delegation during his state visits to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar. According to a presidential spokesman, she has a large number of followers from overseas Filipino communities, especially in the Middle East, and was meant to boost morale and well-being of her followers.

 Mocha Uson’s Promotion of “Federalism”

- As member of the board, Mocha’s job is to be part of a subcommittee tasked to review movies, programs, or television shows for recommendations of disapproval. - Her position in the MTRCB is said to expire on September 30, 2017, although she relinquished her post on May 8, 2017, following her appointment as assistant secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office. - On May 8, 2017, President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Uson as assistant secretary of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO). Uson will be handling the social media department of the PCOO. - On October 3, 2018, during a Senate budget hearing, Uson stated that she had resigned as PCOO Assistant Secretary in order for the PCOO's proposed 2019 budget to be passed.
