My Poem for Literature Project Catherine Lim’s Little Ironies: The Father
In the wait of his return With a mixed emotion of Fear of his mistakes And the eagerness Of his kindness
Returning drunk, was his mistake Returning with food, was his kindness He was a father of six And the only working parent
In the shadow of the night In the slumber of his might If they were to irritate him They will be intimidated by him They will get beaten up by him
The whine of his child Made him no longer mild In his insane rage He broke his conscience cage He came upon a ferocious hate And a bloodthirsty frenzy
In the death of his young dear He broke into tears And begged for her forgiveness
Joy and warmth was granted To the humble but poor family For drunk he will never be
The demon he used to be, Has turned over a new leaf
