Tourists around the world come to Hanoi to see beautiful landscapes and enjoy Vietnamese special dishes, but, it’s them who choose to never come back when they experience the traffic problems here. Terrible traffic has set an alarm to Vietnam officials, making it a nightmare for both local citizen and visitors. It’s undeniable that low infrastructure is the main culprit causing traffic problem, especially the traffic jam. Most of the roads in Hanoi are so narrow that there are not enough space for vehicles in rush hours. Due to cramped roads, people are stuck in a long line for a long time, which forces them to drive to the pavement which people walk in. That finally makes a chaotic scene and the traffic becomes uncontrollable. Besides being narrow, roads are rough and deteriorated. People travelling day by day on that type of roads have to face with the problem of unavoidably damaged vehicles and they may become stressful. The more they get stress, the more impatient they are. Those people each day cause thousands of accidents slowing down the transport. Furthermore, the Segway systemsegway system applied to Vietnamese traffic/transportation has made traffic much more terrible on rainy days. This system should have been improved long time ago basing on the typical constant rain season of Vietnam, but it seems officials are neglecting it. Whenever hard rain comes, sewers in most areas are unable to immediately relieve that amount of water, which makes roads flooded with the water raising up to a meter. On these days, people are not just in trouble finding a dry space to travel but also find it hard to avoid potholes covered up by water. The traffic by that way is a hundred times slower than usual. The answer for the question “Why is that?” is so clear that everybody can point out: it’s because of people’s awareness and government’s poor administration. Not everyone can recognize the huge benefit of staying in lines, abiding by traffic laws and staying relaxed when driving. The Vietnam’s society developes so fast (but unsustainable) that people, whose common knowledge is still little, become much selfish and ignore every mutual benefits. Government elected by a group of those selfish people is still confused trying to solve things little by little, unthoroughly and unprofessionally. And, corruption has made Hanoi’s traffic way too complicated to rearrange.

If only Vietnamese could find a way to change people’s mind, traffic issues might be eliminated. Only when citizens raise up their self-realizing and act for the community can they be able to change the whole country.
