Exposure to diethanolamine may cause allergic contact dermatitis. If allergy develops, very low future exposures can cause itching and a skin rash. Systematically toxic concentrations of this product will probably not be absorbed through human skin. Diethanolamine has the potential for possibly harmful skin absorption. Studies have been performed by the National Toxicology Program (NTP) on skin absorption of Diethanolamine in mice and rats. The results show no evidence of carcinogenicity on mice of both sexes. The significance of these findings is unclear and additional testing is currently underway.

FIRST AID: Eye Contact:

Immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15minutes. If redness, itching or a burning sensation develops, have eyes examined and treated by medical personnel. Control of exposure to below the PEL and/or TLV for the ingredients may not be sufficient (See Section II or below). Minimize exposure in accordance with good hygiene practice. The ACGIH TLV for Diethanolamine is 0.46 ppm (skin). Engineering Controls: Use ventilation adequate to maintain safe levels. Eye Protection: Chemical tight goggles. Protective clothing: Impervious gloves. Respiratory Protection: If needed, use MSHA-NIOSH approved respirator for organic vapors. Other: Eyewash station and safety shower in work area.
