SHORT CIRCUIT TEST

Motor protection

Duty cicle:

O - CO at “Iq” current

O : tripping of the circuit under short circuit condition breaker CO : Closing by contactor under short circuit condition and tripping of the breaker 17

COORDINATION TYPE Type 1 Damage to the contactor and/or thermal overload is acceptable as two condition are release - there is no risk to the fulfilled: - no device other than contactors and/or overload operator; release can be replaced.

ABB SACE

18

COORDINATION TYPE Type 2

The only risk permitted is light welding of the contact i,e. the contactor can easily be separated either by electrical control or using a screwdriver.

After the coordination test: all the protection device functions must still be operational; the manufacturer must prove that the contactor is st operational for further service. ABB SACE

19

COORDINATION COMPARISON Type 1 - Lower investment cost - Expansive maintenance - Maintenance stop plant

ABB SACE

20

COORDINATION COMPARISON Type 2 - Higher investment cost - Cheaper -maintenance Continuity of service ABB SACE
