MOLAFF Copy - Location
Wide Awake/2008
Location The first annual Mosaic LA Film Fest is going to be held November 8, 2008, at the Silent Movie Theatre [http://www.silentmovietheatre.com/] in Los Angeles, CA. Only a few years ago, the theatre was the only one in the world exclusively screening silent films starring old Hollywood icons like Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford. Located on Fairfax between Melrose and Rosewood Avenues, the Silent Movie Theatre was built in 1942 by John and Dorothy Hampton as a way to showcase their silent film collection. In 2006, the theatre underwent nearly $1 million in renovations and a café and silent film art gallery were added to the 158seat theatre. The theatre’s intimate atmosphere now welcomes theatergoers interested in silent films, art house films, and live entertainment. The Silent Movie Theatre is located just west of L.A.’s famous Farmer’s Market with 28 specialty stores and 35 restaurants and coffee bars, and The Grove, a 50+ store shopping and dining complex designed with the outdoor malls of Europe in mind. North of the theatre is Melrose Avenue, world renowned for its independent fashion boutiques, and located west is Beverly Hills and the fourstory Beverly Center with 160 boutiques, restaurants, and department stores. All of these shopping, dining, and entertainment venues are within walking distance of the Silent Movie Theatre and will be open for your enjoyment and perusal before and after the film fest.
