ffective Team Leadership for Academic Achievement:
A Mini-Conference Series for School Teams About the S eries This series is based on Facilitating School Redesign, a professional development institute on which the UFT Teacher Center and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) have collaborated for over 10 years. The goals of the institute—increasing student achievement and raising academic levels—are addressed by guiding teams in planning for the implementation of strong instructional plans. Customized to meet the needs of districts and urban school teams from across the country, the institute gives teams the knowledge and skills they need to facilitate the redesign of low-performing schools. Those who have attended the institute include members of school and district leadership teams, administrators and district personnel responsible for facilitating school improvement. This Mini-Conference series, based on the institute’s core components, is 4 full-day work sessions focused on effective communication, team building, data-informed decision making, professional development and action planning. At each session, participants learn interactive tools, strategies and skills that can be integrated into the unique context of their work. Applying the skills will enable teams to support their schools as vital learning organizations–places of higher academic achievement for students.
