Dear SDA friends around the world, With the horrors that you’ve been hearing about in the news in the past weeks, millions of people have been wondering “Why?” Faith: 1) Why did God allow all those horrible tidal waves to come rushing across hundreds or thousands of miles of the coasts of so many countries - killing people and destroying so much of everything? Mourning her dead on the beach. Millions dead, missing, Hope: 2) But why or wounded. Why? did the news report that not one elephant, or even one rabbit got killed by it when all those hundreds of thousands of people got hit? 3) Did God do something special for the animals? The news reporter asked, “How did the animals know? Do they have a ‘sixth sense?’” Charity: 4) And why did Reuters news agency report the other day that they found an 18 month old baby floating out in the ocean on a mattress, and that he was in good health? 5) Why didn’t he get Why? killed or even get hurt like so many thousands of others? Faith: 6) And why did many good people get killed and many evil people escape? Hope: 7) And in other places, why did many evil people get killed, and many good people escape? Faith: 8) Why didn’t the military of some of those nations warn their people after some of them were warned by scientists? Charity: 9) And why did the media report that one ten year old girl warned a hundred people that a great tidal wave was Why? coming when she saw the water first rush out - and all those people were saved? 10) Why didn’t that happen for hundreds of thousands of other people? Faith: 11) With all the earthquakes in California, why hasn’t even one of them occurred out in the ocean a little ways, to cause gigantic tidal waves to rush across the west coast, and kill millions there? 12) Is God protecting America from such things because people here are pure and good - like this rich, smiling man in Las Vegas with his gay paramour? Why?

Hope: 15) Why has God waited until we’re here in the end of the world for many of the great calamities and horrors to happen? 16) Why haven’t they happened all along? Faith: 17) What about the promises of God - where He promises to protect us from evil? We see that He has been working to protect us all our lives. He also protected Samson against 1000 Philistine soldiers, and gave him power to kill them all with the jawbone of an ass. He gave David protection from King Saul when he was hiding in a cave. He protected Martin Luther against the pope of Rome, against the world-wide church, and against all the armies of Germany and the world. He protected dear Jesus in the boat in the great storm at sea, and made Him disappear and vanish out of their Time, 12/27/04. sight when His own friends and neighbors were going to throw Him off a cliff in His own home town of Nazareth. He protected the three worthies when they were thrown into the burning fiery furnace. But God doesn’t just give protection for His people long ago. He promises to give protection to you now, and tomorrow, and in the time of trouble. With these almighty promises of God, you need fear absolutely nothing! Listen “My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The more a person learns of God’s ways, the more he sees that, 1) suffering for Christ, or 2) dying “in Christ” are not “evil” at all, but are actually causes for rejoicing. The Bible reveals that the death of His people is a “blessed” thing {see Rev. 14:13}, and is actually “precious” to Him! {See Ps. 116:15}. Like the martyrs {who were singing for joy while dying}, suffering for Christ brings a very close sense of His presence.
