Towards Understanding Salafiyyah (Part 2)

(The Methodology Concerning the Legislation) A Compilation About The Proper Methodology of Islaam From Various Works of The Scholars. Compilied and Translated by Akram Ibn Muhammad AbdulCader as-Saylaanee an-Najdee Revised & Edited by Abu ‘Abdis Salaam Siddiq Ibin Lynoid Al Juyaanee

The Methodology Concerning the Legislation

‫ ا ا ا‬ So now after having established the fact that the Qur'aan and Sunnah are the legislations in Islaam, let’s look at our methodology concerning them: Allaah says:

! "$# % ' & () * + , ” (Say to them O Muhammad) Follow what has been sent down unto you from your Lord (the Qur'aan and the Sunnah), and follow not any Auliyâ' (protectors and helpers, etc. who order you to associate partners in worship with Allah), besides Him (Allah). Little do you remember!” (Al-A'raf: 3) Towards Understanding Salafiyyah www.SalafyInk.com

(Then the Prophet said): and verily, whatever the Messenger of Allaah has made haraam is as if Allaah has made it haraam.” (Sunan at-Tirmidhee 5/38) The Prophet ((7 +(9 : 8(;) also said,

The Prophet said: whoever obeys me will enter heaven and whoever obeys me he has refused.” (Saheeh al-Bukhaaree, 7280)

The Prophet ((7 +(9 : 8(;) also said,

WX7 () ! $ Y(D Z[4 $" T9, I0 B 4 *]^ 9 _ 5[4 ,/\ 8(9 /4' P ` 7 +0 a4 *]b " 5 “Do not ask me about what I didn't mention, because what has caused the destruction of the previous nations was their questioning and disagreement with their Prophets. If I forbid you from doing something, avoid it, and if I order you to do something do as much of it as you possibly can.” (Saheeh al-Bukhaaree, 7288) Allah says,

/ 4 + 09 $ / I %c 4 7 " $ d “And whatsoever the Messenger (Muhammad) gives you, take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it).” (Al-Hashr: 7) Thus dear reader, as illustrated in these aforementioned verses and ahaadeeth, it is obligatory upon us to follow that which Allah has revealed to us from the Qur’an and Sunnah. This is a reality that no Muslim can deny. Allah sent his Messenger ((7 +(9 : 8(;) to us in order that he may explain to us that which was revealed to him. Allah says,

! "# e 3 / (# / f 0 ( " $ %g Y 0 “And We have also sent down unto you (O Muhammad) the reminder and the advice (the Qur'ân), that you may explain clearly to men what is sent down to them, and that they may give thought.” (An Nahl: 44) Towards Understanding Salafiyyah www.SalafyInk.com

And verily, they had been before in manifest error.” (Jumu’ah: 2) Shaikh Ahmad An Najmee (may Allah preserve him) said in his explanation of Sharhus Sunnah,

Imaam Ahmad said,

‫و ا ان‬ “And the Sunnah is that which explains the Qur’an”

With this being the case it is therefore obligatory upon us to take from the Prophet’s (‫ ) ا وﺱ‬understanding. Now the question arises, “How is it possible to take from his understanding when we never met him?” O Noble reader, May Allaah hasten you to His obedience, who is it that recorded the Message? Who is it that witnessed the revelation? Who is it that learned and practiced and taught real Islaam as understood by the Prophet (‫ ) ا وﺱ‬to the following generation of Muslims? The answer to this, May Allaah bless you, is the Sahaabah (the companions of the Messenger of Allah (‫ !) ا وﺱ‬Can anyone deny this? The Sahaabah (the companions of the Messenger of Allah (‫) ا وﺱ‬ have transmitted to us the statement of the Messenger of Allah ( ‫ ا‬ ‫ )وﺱ‬in a most trustworthy way; just as they have transmitted to us the Qur’an. No one will deny that the Sahaabah are the ones who transmitted the Qur'aan and the Sunnah except one who is ignorant or, one who is inclined to denying the legislation. O Noble Reader, May Allaah preserve you, there is no one who denies the Sunnah except that he is also by default denying the Qur'aan!; this because the Qur'aan was transmitted in the same way, and by the same people who transmitted the Sunnah. For example, in back of the Qur'aan which most people read from you will find a chain of narrators. Each recitation haves its own distinct authentic chain of narration. Let us now take a look at one of these chains of narration. The chain for the Riwaayah of 'Aasim which has been reported by Hafs, is as follows: Hafs bin Sulaimaan bin Al Mughairah Al Asadee Al Kufee on the recitation of Aasim bin Abee An Najood Al Kufee At Taabi’ee on Abee Abdir Rahmaan Abdillah bin Habeeb As Sulamee on the authority of ‘Uthmaan bin ‘Affaan and ‘Alee bin Abee Taalib and Zaid bin Thaabit and ‘Ubai bin Ka’b on the Prophet ((7 +(9 : 8(;) who heard it from Jibreel who heard it from Allaah. Therefore, just as there is a chain of narration for the Hadeeth, there also a chain of narration for the Qur’an. With this being the case, upon what basis Towards Understanding Salafiyyah www.SalafyInk.com

could anyone deny the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (‫!?) ا وﺱ‬ By Allah, there is no belief for the one who denies the Qur'aan and Sunnah as their fundamental sources of legislation. Allaah says:

]4 >k 3 l / 0 " k ^ K 4 m Kg 6 3 8 J ! 0 X 3 Y '

4 Kn (C K(gC 3 o p ) K Bn " J /C e “But no, by your Lord! (O Muhammad) They cannot be believers until they make you judge in all disputes between them, and find in their souls no resistance against your decisions, but accept them with the fullest submission.” (Surah an-Nisaa: 65) And here there is something of extreme importance that we must understand:

Kn (C K(gC 3 The fullest of submission here means that we don’t make excuses, but rather we accept and follow everything that is brought to us from the Qur'aan and the Sunnah. The 'Ulemaa say that there is a verse in the Qur'aan known as "Ayatul Imtihaan", the verse of testing Allah The Most High says,

   5 " e @ 3 + (q 6 3 ] 4 + (q ! .6 0$ ! A ) 1 J 1 er + (q “Say: if you love Allaah then follow me (Muhammad) and Allaah will love you and forgive you your sins and Allaah is the Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Surah Aali 'Imraan: 31)

So if you truly love Allaah, then follow the Messenger (‫ ) ا وﺱ‬and Allaah will love you. There are no excuses regarding this, the statement of Allaah is clearer then the sun in a cloudless sky. O Noble Reader, May Allaah preserve you,
